BCBS Federal- clock begins!

Recommended Posts

My BCBS of Western NY told me 3 business days. It took me an extra day because of Labor Day, but it was 3 business days after they got my paperwork.

Wishing you luck! My packet goes to BCBS Federal in late January. I can't wait to find out if they will approve it. So many hoops to jump through!

I have BCBS Fed as well and my packet was submitted last Friday. I called on Wednesday and it hadn't been reviewed yet. I'm thinking since Monday was a holiday it may be next week before I hear anything.

I just found this site….was considering going to Mexico to have the sleeve procedure & see where you guys are working on getting Fed BC/BS to cover this in the U.S. Do you know what the criteria for the approval with insurance to pay? I was just informed by a Facebook buddy (who doesn't have federal BC/BS) the following statement: Federal ins I believe covers it. My BC/Bs would not but it takes about 6 months prior to surgery but you have to see psychiatrist for 6 months.

Is this true see a psychiatrist for 6 months? I know about 8 yrs ago a former co-worker was only about 60 lbs overweight with a couple of other weight related health issues and her Gastric procedure was paid for by Federal.

I would appreciate any info given.

It only takes 3 months. Three office appts to include nutritionist, a stress test, sleep study, and a psych appt. there was no upfront weight loss requirement either. My bmi was 36 so I needed to have 2 comorbidities which were high bp and GERD.

My request was sent through to BCBS Federal on Friday 01/23/15. Anxiously awaiting their response. I had to do the 6 month supervised visit, psych consult, nutritionist visit, and endoscopy. I got through all of these hurdles and am hoping it is enough. *Fingers crossed*

I spoke to Bariatric Surgery Insurance Specialist today and she told me she was very familiar with Fed BC/BS. Her info to me was 35 BMI-40 with health related obesity issue such as diabetics II, sleep apnea. If 40+ considered morbidly obese so different criteria. She said I could come in they could see if I qualify (5 hr drive when roads are not snow covered). There is a 3 month surgery prep including 3month nutritionist/psych visit. I think I am borderline to being 35BMI/with possible diabetic II (runs in my family) with sleep apnea….but of course have to be tested. Another statement the office made to me is if I go to MX to have this procedure, that my BC/BS might cover me if I occur complications, esp if I was never approved. It started me to thinking…..what if????

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
