Emotional downs post op?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering... I am 7 weeks post op. Doing great for the most part. The last 10 days or so I have been feeling odd in the evening. About 6pm or so I become a terror to be around - okay, not that bad, but like I am PMSing every evening. I am short, snappy, irratated at the littlest things. Anyone go through this? Will it pass? Not enough Protein? Alter time of eating? supplementing? Do I need more exercise? fluids? prozac before a divorce?

My husband is GREAT. He is so incredibly supportive, but I HATE that I am being so short with him... why can't it be at work and I be fine at home?

Just curious if anyone else thinks they are going crazy?

Thanks,

Kate

Funny, I just read "Mood Swings?" by lizrbit on another part of the site - that's exactly what I'm going through!

I have not had surgery but I used to be really hateful, grouchy and snappy at work and once I got on Prozac, that went away. I actually like my co-workers now.....and they like me too. LOL

We've discussed this from time to time on this board ...and my patient advocate at the hospital warned me about a bout of depression post-op, too. Estrogen is stored in your fat cells and when you lose weight the estrogen is released (probably along with other hormones) <shrug> so the feeling of PMS is normal and will go away after a short time. Mine lasted about 2 weeks. Funny, now that I think about it, starting my exercise program seemed to help. It's widely accepted that exercise releases endorphins which eases depression.

So, you're not going crazy...this is normal...and will get better. If it doesn't you may want to consider talking to your doctor. When I got on Lexapro 4 months ago I became a new woman and MUCH easier to live with.

Katie - I was banded by Dr. Lin in Atlanta on Tuesday the 15th. I haven't had the emotional stuff yet, but it could be related to missing food. Is the time you're moody around the time you and your husband would be enjoying or planning food together? Just a thought...

I'd love to talk further about your experience with Dr. Lin, when you had the surgery and how your progress is going. If you're interested, let me know.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
