How are your incisions? How many do you have?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I was banded on 11/10 and have 5 incisions. They were closed with steristrips and all have fallen off except for the one on the largest incision. I started to try and peel it off but it looked like it was pulling off the scab (so sorry if that's TMI or grossing anyone out). Not sure if I should just peel it off anyway? All of the handouts and what I've read said to peel them off in the shower after 2 weeks. I'm sure it's closed, I'm just weirded out as I've never had surgery or incisions to deal with :-/

If I knew how to post a photo on here I would. Mine are 4 small incisions and one larger one about and inch long they are stiches covered in a clear tape, just a really bad bruise around it.

I have 4. They were closed with a clear glue which has now just naturally worn off in the shower over the past couple of weeks.

I took mine off on day 3 post op. I have an allergy to any adhesive, even band aids, and I couldn't stand the itching. Your incisions are stitched on the inside, and the steri strips just help hold the skin closed until it heals together some to minimize the scarring.

Mine were glued, and the doctor said to keep them dry for a few weeks, and that the glue would wear off eventually.

I had five incisions, the largest, and the one that is still the most noticeable, is where the port is placed. I imagine they placed the band through that spot as well.

Interesting. I was told that I could shower with the glue..just no scrubbing and no submerging in Water.< /p>

I find it so interesting that we all had the same surgery, yet we each were given such different instructions. Even for the pre-op diet. My doctor required 2 weeks, whereas I've read that other doctors didn't require one at all. Some of us have visible stitches, or were closed with glue, or steristrips. I feel that it just begs the question of what is truly necessary for success? Seems some doctors protocol is very high maintenance, and possibly overkill, when others are pretty relaxed.

It truly just makes me more thankful for this forum so that each of us can understand and compare 'notes.' If someone is having an extremely hard time, one of us has probably experienced the same and can provide valuable advice ☺️ What can I say, thanksgiving is tomorrow and I'm in a thankful mood ???? lol

I know that the length of the pre-op diet is related to your BMI. They decide how long you should be on to shrink the liver before surgery based on it.

I'm the same as Briefs but we had surgery at the same practice.

My port is just to the right of my belly button, and the incision there is inside my belly button so not very visible. The other is at my bra line, and is in line with where the band is on my stomach (so much higher that I thought!)

Is everyone else's port by their belly button?

My port is close to the top of my stomach, off to the right a lil and about a few inches below my bra. I have 5 total incisions total. None are in my belly button.

Mine look good too. They were pretty itchy in the beginning.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
