Does Anyone Only Weigh Monthly?

Recommended Posts

I'm just about 3 weeks out of surgery, and thinking of switching to only weighing monthly.

I don't want to become obsessive about the number on the scale and I don't want to constantly be trying to change how I eat / exercise just because I'm not losing as fast as I think I should. I want to do what my doctor told me to do and let that be the end of it.

My question is, does anyone else do this? Has anyone else done it from this early in the process? Is it doable, or will I most likely just go crazy and weigh every day anyway?

If you weigh monthly, are you happy with that? Are your losses still normal / good?

I plan on weighing only at my follow-up appointments. I will take my measurements every 3 weeks or so and take photos once per month in the same clothing and in the same spot. The scale is only my friend when it shows weight loss. When it doesn't, it changes my entire mood and I don't like doing that to myself, so no scale at home for me.

Yes!! While I'm only 3+ weeks post op, I decided before surgery that I would switch to weighing only once a month. You see...I'm a recovering scale addict. And I wanted to use this surgery to heal myself physically, mentally and emotionally. I would weigh every day and beat myself up about it. Very self-critical. After reading so many posts about the "dreaded 3 week stall" I thought well hey, if I'm sleeved on Nov 3 then I'll just weigh in on the first of each month. That's easy to remember. So I haven't weighed myself since surgery. I'm guaranteed a decent loss on Dec 1 but I won't know if I've been going through a stall or how long it has been.

Congratulations on your surgery. I only weigh in when I see the doctor or once a month. I find it just works better.

Blessings,

Kathleen

Sounds like an excellent plan! As long as you're following your doctor's plan, you will lose whether your monitoring daily or not! I'm at goal, and try to weigh weekly, just to make sure no weight is keeping on. Especially this time of the year!

I was sleeved on 10/27 and was weighing once weekly. When I went to my first follow up appt my surgeon told me to weigh in daily until my follow up appt on Dec 30th. That is so against what I have ever done when losing weight but I am following my docs orders.

I was given a great little book to log and track. When I first got it I was like I'm not going to use this I am going to use my phone. But OMG I love this little book. I use it to track all my stuff, my weight, calories, Protein, sugars, liquid and exercise. It just works really well for me.

I am taking pics once a month and my measurements once a month too. I will be four weeks post op on this coming Monday and so far I have been losing and feeling great!

I do. I focus more on my food diary, exercising and drinking my Water. It helps me focus on listening to my body and noticing non scale victories like being able to walk easier or clothes bring loser. When I do these things by the time I check in with the doctor my weight is almost always down, and I have learned to appreciate feeling better over nets on a scale.

I think I may resort to this or maybe weekly. I'm 8 days post-op and weigh everyday and I know I shouldn't! Good luck to you with the monthly weigh ins. Keep me posted if its a success and I'll do the same.

At 3 months out, I only weighed myself at my doctors visits. People also talk about stalls, that doesn't exist for me because I don't do the scale. I know I will obsess over it and get all worked up because I didn't lose 2 pounds per week. I started to log my food intake, it didn't last long. I am not perfect but 90 percent of the time I am eating healthy. I also have myself programmed to eat every 2 hours and I measure my food. I will do only 1/4 cup of meat and 1/4 of veggies. Sometimes I can not finish. I also make sure that I have my Gatorade bottle filled with Water. If I consume 2 of those during the day then I know I had at least 8 cups. I continue to follow my surgeon's plan. The only probelm I have is eating too fast sometimes. I still do at least 1 Protein shake a day. This really helps me tame my sweet tooth, it really does. I noticed when I stopped drinkin g them, I had this huge craving for sweets. NO JOKE! I make sure to exercise and it is very important to find something that you enjoy. I always push myself to exercise, I would rather lay in my bed 430 in the morning, lol.

I would say, continue with your doctor's plan and exercise. the weight will come off eventually.

Later Losers!

I do. At 2weeks post op I was down 26lbs. However at 6 weeks I had only lost another 6 . Now it's possible I stalled at week 3 but I didn't weigh myself so I have no idea. I do know if I only lose 6lbs a month that's 6 less pounds on my body. That's 6 lbs my knees don't have to carry. If I only lose 6 lbs a month from here to goal, I am absolutely ok with it.

I am a scale junkie. A scale addict. I need a scale intervention. Always been that way. I don't know if I can handle only once a month but maybe just weekly.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
