Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi Friends!!

I had been complaining how restrictive my post op diet is and how hungry I am with the hunger pain and finally figured I was in the throws of Bandster Hell!! So in a fit of hunger pain, (10 days out) I cut a dice size of hard chedder cheese and am sucking on it like a hard candy. this is making me feel better and I love the taste, but is this real bad for me to do? It's kind of like cheese juice going down. Mentally and physically this makes me feel better. I did it once last night and once tonight. I never even heard of bandster hell until it happened to me.

That sounds like a good idea, but of course you should check with your doctor or dietician. My doctor told me I could call his office if I had any questions relating to diet. He has a dietician there, and any medical questions that his staff can't answer are passed on to him and they'll get back to me within 24 hours. So perhaps call his office.

I saw an ad for pizza on TV last night and started to drool at the sight of the melted cheese. It's very strange because I'm not a big pizza lover. So I've had cheese on my mind since then! Maybe if I start suffering from head hunger, I'll give that a shot myself. :)

Good Morning Bandsters,

I am glad to report I had a great night's sleep- on my tummy!!! Oh, it felt sooo good, and I did not have to get up for meds. What a wonderful night! Then for Breakfast I had a Slim Fast and boy, am I full! I am sitting here regreting drinking the whole thing.

OnMyWay07 and Lynette- I have not weighted myself since surgery, and will only weight in at the dr.'s next week, because as Lynette said, one day I might not lose anything and then I will get depressed and might eat due to frustations, that's what I did in the past anyways.

For me, walking, gas-x and a heating pad were key to get rid of gas pains. I hardly hurt anymore.

NewCC- call your doctor! It does not sound good at all!!!

Hi ,

good luck to all going in this week to be banded.

I saw my doctor today and he told me to continue with the tylenol for pain, gas x and added Imodium 3 times a day.

He changed my bandages and said I am healing well.

I will see him next Monday to have the staples removed and get back to work. God bless all you guys going back to work so early.

Sunny, I have been sleeping a lot, even taking naps with Hunter in the afternoons helped a lot. I think it does help you heal better.

Cazulay, you a belly sleeper too. It's great to get back in your normal position after surgery.

Cate54, sound like you're doing well. Keep up the great progress.

Newcc, I'd call the doc too. You may just need an antibiotic, so don't freak out. Just something to take the infection away and make you more comfortable. Good luck, and let us know what happens.

Sunny- I find that I am sleeping alot too. I get up in the morning but take a 2-2 1/2 hour nap in the afternoon and then back to bed early at night. That is really unusual for me because I am one to set up at night and watch tv until 1-2 am sometimes 3 am. DH is really liking me going to sleep early because the tv is off. LOL

I didn't get my nap yesterday and yawned and yawned the whole time we were at the races last night. You would have thought I worked 3rd shift the night before and hadn't had any sleep.

It's wonderful being off and being able to sleep when we want though. Next week will be rough returning to 'real' life with work and all. LOL

Wow, terrible weekend. I called the Dr. 3 times over a 2 hour period just to get him to call me back - and sort of disregard my concern. By Sun. night I had a hard, swollen, red, warm spot the size of my palm (at least) under my large incision. (It looks like I have a pear inserted between my ribs.) ANYWAY, called the Doctor twice last night (answering service) and he never called back. This morning I went to the office. The employees looked at the sore spot and got him on the phone. They called in an antibotic and he will see me tomorrow morning.

I am feeling like this was a bit of a take your money and run deal. If I had been on insurance - would I have gotten better response? Most of us are smart enough to know when something is wrong with our body. Yes, this proceedure is new and different for us, but I knew it wasn't right. They are all claiming that this never happens, he always calls back. Part of my research was checking to see if people who have used him/his group, felt good about them and their follow-up. Maybe it was just a fluke, but I am still regretting the surgery. I should have just sucked it up and lost the weight without the extra tool! Ouch!! Maybe tomorrow I'll see the light!!

Thanks for the encouragement to perservere and see the Doctor! CC

Phyl, I got the DaVinci raspberry Syrup last night and put it in my shake this morning with 1 oz of raspberries. OMG, it is so good. It reminds me of Greater's black raspberry chip ice cream (for who ever is familiar with Greater's ice cream) oh, I'm going to have another one tonight!!!

Hi,

Where did you find the rasberry syrup? My sample bottle isn't going to last much longer and so far I can't find the raspberry anywhere.

NewCC so sorry to hear you were put off. He should have been right on the phone calling you back whether you were self pay or insurance pay. At least you have the antibiotic now. I would have thought he would have seen you today. Take care of yourself and give him a piece of your mind. I would!!!!!

Just a quick note to say, Hi to all! My computer isn't working worth SH*T!!!! Lynette, not pleased with this!!! LOL, it is soooo slow I am going to scream!!! It is the old one, still waiting for the parts for the new one, yikes!!!! So not sure how much I will be able to get on today!

Gotta run out and get a pump for the pool! My hubby says check into a new one ... either inground or another above ground. Ours is a 24' round, and it is nice, but it is 20 years old! We don't want to start putting a ton of money into it and I would love to have one when I get grandkids, lol! So gotta check all that out today!

NewCC, Sorry to hear about your incision! Doesn't sound good at all! Good you checked on it though, sometimes the health professionals seem to be so calloused by the "bad" things in life, that they kind of poopoo the rest of it!!! I hope the antibiotic takes care of it!

Kathy and Chim, Good luck with your first day back at work! Let us know how it went!

Dini, Sorry you are having a rough day already!! Gee, not a fun thing at all! I hate when my day starts out like that, it seems to just keep coming!!! YIKES!

Lynette and Sunny, hope to check back in with you all later!

Phyllser, hope to try this raspberry Syrup everyone is raving about, sounds delicious!!!

Everyone else, have a great day and check in later!!! Bye for now!:)

Thanks Lynette. If I can, I'm going to try to eliminate sweeteners from my diet, even artificial ones. I just want to be satisfied with the natural sugars in fruit and things, so we'll see how things go, but I will try the brown sugar Splenda if I feel I need it. :)

I enjoyed my workout at the gym. 30 mins on the treadmill. I don't want to push things. It's so good to be back in an exercise regime. I had to put mine on hold while trying to reach insurance criteria. Now that I'm back again, albeit VERY gently, it's a good feeling. I'm going to get a new battery for my pedometer and get that up and running again to make sure I walk the required 10,000 steps per day. :)

NewCC Sorry you had an awful time with your doctor, but hopefully the antibiotics will kick in and do as they're supposed to. Keep an eye on it though and definitely keep a record of your calls made and the response, or lack thereof, just in case you need the information in the future. Maybe you should take a photo of the area as well. With any luck, once your antibiotics have taken effect, you'll feel better about your decision for this surgery. I know I had a few hours of "what have I done to myself?" while in the hospital with the worst of the pain, but once it subsided, so did those thoughts.

Hang in there! Fingers and toes crossed that you'll be on the quick road to recovery sooner rather than later. :)

NewCC, just because your doc is an ass, don't be hard on yourself. This is a tool you needed, just like the rest of us, and you can always find another doc, but trust in yourself to have made the right decision for you, and tomorrow will be a better day. Hang in there with us. I'm glad you got an antibiotic for the healing process.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
