Any 2014 July Sleevers out there?

Recommended Posts

I am finally down 47 lbs. I had a big stall for a month. I am hoping to reach my 1/2 way goal of 50 lbs. by next week. I want to hit it before Thanksgiving. I was hoping 60 lbs lost by Christmas. How are you doing? How much have you lost in 4 months? Please share your story with me. I get so frustrated that I haven't lost more then 47 lbs., yet I am proud of myself. Started a size 18/20 and now down to a size 12. Hope to hear back from others in my situation. Thanks!

July 18th here. I feel your pain sister. I didn't lose one single pound in October. Zero! I was so upset by this situation I embarrassed myself by crying during my three month check up on October 20th. My surgeon's advise was to stop Protein supplements, and let my body survive on my fat reserves. Ok..... I'm concerned about hair and muscle loss so I'm not going to do that. Anyways, I loss 4 big pounds during my two week pre op diet. The rest I've lost since surgery. I can't wait to hit the 50lb mark. I just want to see it! I'm a slow looser, and I'm going to have to be ok with that. I just want to reach goal by April of next year. What's interesting to me is, how can you not drop big numbers eating 700-800 calories a day? Let's just hang in there and maybe we'll get to the big 50 together.

Thanks for responding! I know what you mean. I didn't lose anything in October either. I just started to lose a couple pounds this month. I started to exercise more too. I am hoping that makes a difference. It's getting cold here so now I have to exercise inside. It's a challenge to do once you get home. Would you agree?

Let me know when you hit 50 lbs. Looks like we are both 3 lbs. away from that goal. :)

Best of luck!! Keep up the great job!

I got sleeved in July 2014 as well and am down 45-47 lbs i just can't seem to make it to the 50 lb mark, myself. I am exercising 4-6 times per week and getting all my Protein in mostly by diet alone although I also sometimes use Protein Powder to help me over the hump. Good luck to you ladies! We can do it!

July 24th here and also a couple pounds away from losing 50. I'm losing way slower than I had expected to. But at least I'm not regaining the weight like I would before the sleeve.

July 16th here. I am at 55 pounds lost but really we are all very close. I don't think we are slow losers, some are fast losers but we are doing pretty good. Think positive about what you have lost instead of where you think you should be.

@@SherB good point! I guess I will look at it this way... 47 lbs lost of 204 lbs to lose means I've already lost 23% of the amount I want to lose. In just under 4 months!

I had a July 29th date. I'm just coming out of a month long stall. Right now I'm down 67 pounds since my pre-op diet started. 14 of that was before surgery. Feel great, if I never see another Protein Shake again I'll be a happy man. I started doing homemade beef Jerky for some Snacks and that seems to kill two birds with one stone with the Protein and low calorie. Just keep on doing what we're doing and hold things will happen. I really miss having a beer every so often but I'll take the trade off. Good luck!

I had a sleeve on July seventh. I have lost a total of seventy pounds, thirty before surgery and forty after. The amount of weight I lose perweek varies. I lost twenty over the summer and twenty since Sept. I notice that I'm more successful when I keep my calories at around a thousand and if I drink more. If I go too low with my weight loss I stall.

I'm on the same boat! I had mine late June but I've lost 50 lbs and I haven't lost in 2 1/2 weeks. I'll gain a couple pounds and then go down to 50 lbs. I still feel great though and I'm trying to figure out my body. I'm sad because I'm not motivated to work out anymore. I'm more conscious with my mobility throughout the day and make it a point to walk more and climb stairs etc. doc said I will get some plateau's along the way but will continue to lose weight. Just need to be patient. I used to lose a lot a weight then gain a TON! I have to stop being unappreciative sometimes. I could never lose 50 lbs in 4 1/2 months doing exercise and diet. So I need to step back and enjoy the process I guess. Wish you happy weight loss!

@dannilynn1. Well how much was he expecting you to lose? Almost 70lbs in 4months is alot of weight. I don't understand. I was sleeved on July 18th and have lost 44 pounds in four months. I sit here every day praying that this fat will come off my body. Were you disappointed that your doctor was disappointed in your progress? And did he give you a number he would've been happy with? How many calories are you eating at this point? Thanks.

@Finediva-- I am extremely happy with what i have lost. He is expecting me to be at 115 by my year post op. He was expecting me to be in the 160's. to me that is way to fast lol. I do not understand why he was disappointed but it is okay. I try to get in about 700-800 calories a day. I eat alot of chicken, salad and other veggies like spinach, carrots, cucumbers and especially soy Beans lol. I love the soybeans. I try to get in my 60-80 grams of Protein a day. I noticed that when I do get my Protein in when i am suppose to, it helps me lose more weight. My kids are in Marching season right now but when it is not marching season, I go hiking every Saturday with my in laws and their friends. We usually hike about 10-13 miles total. I work out at least 30 min 4 days a week for now on the tredmill and lifting weights. And most importantly get my Water in.

@dannilynn1. Thanks for responding. I still say you have done so well. How much Water do you drink a day? I'm good with my Protein and try to keep the calories under 800. My water, I get close, but don't quite meet the 64 ozs. Ever.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
