Learning and preparing ... who submits the request?

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone

In all my reading on here, I can't quite put my finger on one thing, and I'm sure each person's insurance works differently, however - who actually gathers and submits the information for this surgery request to the insurance company? Is it the bariatric team performing your surgery? Or do (did) you do it yourself?

My first appt. (consultation) with the bariatric surgeon is two weeks from today, but in making the appointment, the nurse who answered the phone said that my insurance is one of the easiest to deal with, so that made me think she is familiar with the entire submission process and obtaining of approval. So I got to wondering if they will be handling all that for me (with help from me on gathering the info, of course.)

Your surgeon or primary care physician if you went through them for a referral.

You might have to/want to gather as much info as you can -- maybe ask your doctor's office if they request your medical records from your PCP or do you have to, etc. I just felt better knowing I had my records in my hand -- and keep a copy of everything, just in case -- best of luck!

My surgeon has a patient coordinator and it was her job to get everything together and sent.

Thanks for the responses! I also read a few situations where it looked like the patient him/herself was actually doing the submission themselves, and then getting the call directly from insurance with the "approved or declined" update. I definitely do not want to deal with that! LOL.

It varies. Some people have to complete the form themselves. Once I contacted the bariatric program they sent the request into the insurance company for me.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
