Reflux? Is it awful?

Recommended Posts

I had what was supposed to be my final DR appointment before my sleeve was scheduled. I had an EGD last week. The DR found my reflux was really bad and he strongly suggested I switch from sleeve to bypass b/c of the refulx. He said it can get much worse when you have such a tiny tummy b/c you produce the same amount of acids as when you have a large tummy so it feels much worse. Anyone have experience on this?

I was told the same thing and my mind was set on the sleeve. In the end I went with doctors advice and I have never regretted the decision. Also, I have discovered a huge amount of people develop acid reflex with the sleeve and with the bypass it went away. Best wishes on your decision. The bypass rocks!!

I had reflux before the surgery due to obesity & poor diet.... But none since the sleeve.

I had bad reflux and constant heartburn prior to surgery. I went with the sleeve and as it turned out, I had a hiatal hernia that was repaired in the same surgery. Since surgery, not even the tiniest of heartburn or reflux. Of course, it could be due to the hernia repair so keep that in mind. I'm just glad I don't have any of that discomfort any longer.

I had "silent" reflux inappropriately treated as asthma for 10 years pre-op. When they did my EGD they found the evidence and a contributing hiatial hernia. We had the same discussion, but my doc felt that with the hernial repair and a PPI, I was still a good sleeve candidate. Post op, things were worse for the first month. Even with 40 Omeparzole 2x day, I had to put lifts under the head of my bed to get any rest at night. Good news for me was, after that, once the swelling went down and I lost the weight, still taking the Omeparzole 2x day, I'm symptom free. One day I hope to cut back to just the nighttime dose. I may try it soon.

Omg you're me!!

I never had reflux before my sleeve and since it has been agonizing

Surgeon keeps telling me it's not acid not acid. Went to an ent who tells me it's silent reflux. Gi and surgeon disagree.

I had asthma for last 10 years. Since the surgery and loss of 60 pounds not one single event of asthma.

Was on omeprazole twice a day,40mgs and nothing !

Now on carafate and feel no better.

I went cold turkey and feel great

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
