Complication Insurance while traveling to MX?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone purchased complication insurance before traveling to MX? If so, what co. did you use and how much did it cost? Thanks for any advice!

I've never known anyone to purchase it. Not that it's a scam, but... are you really going to fly back to MX if you're having an emergency? If you're covered under insurance you should be able to be treated at the hospital. They didn't perform your sleeve, they're just fixing issues with an existing organ.

My surgeon absolutely requires that you purchase insurance in Mexico. I will be using his recommended company:
http://www.novamarinsurance.com.mx/includes/provider/medic-prov.php?provider=AM

This insurance is in case anything goes wrong or I have a complication with the surgery that requires additional tests and longer hospital stays. I feel better, knowing that I have it.

Hope that helps!

So, Becca R., does that insurance cover you at all if you come back to the U.S. and have a complication later on down the road? Or, is it just simply while you are there? I am just worried that if something like a leak comes up a month later that my insurance won't cover any hospital stays or anything because I went to MX for surgery. Novamar seems to be a popular one. What surgeon are you using?

Thanks for your help!

@@blessedin08 - as far as I understand it, the insurance covers you for 12 months post-surgery, but it does only cover you *there*. Meaning, it would pay for you to fly down to your doctor and receive care there, but I don't believe it covers postoperative complications that you have to deal with stateside. The thought of being rushed into surgery for a leak, with no insurance coverage here at home, is a terrifying one. I actually called and talked to an adjuster and they had never had a claim for my surgeon (Dr. Ramos Kelly). I am hoping I'm not the first one!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
