@ You ready, friend??? Thinking about you!

I head Mexico Tuesday for surgery. My mom (a retired RN) is going to join me. Lost 14 pounds on the pre-op diet, had to give up drinking great wines and bourbons (some of my favorite joys) to get ready for this, but I am convinced that in January I am going to be very thankful I did this for me. I'm divorced, kids are out of the house, have a great career, but I want to be running and climbing mountains again, and it would be great to be comfortable in a plane seat again, be able to ride everything at an amusement park without having to worry I'll fit in the seats, and get off all the meds I've been slowly adding to overcome the effects of being obese.

In short, I'm scared to death, but I have this vision of what will be possible next year, so I'm going forward with that hope. This isn't a magic wand, but it's a great tool.

YES!!!! We just landed in San Diego. I'm waiting for the shuttle to pick us up and take us to TJ. I'm so excited and nervous.

@@Becca R. Thanks, I appreciate it! We finally made it to the hotel but none of the patient advocates were there. I was trying not to panic but I was worried I didn't know anything about the next day. So I texted the shuttle driver who called them and they found out I was accidentally put on the wrong clinic's list. Whoops! Within 15 min an advocate was at my door. She said they will pick me up tomorrow at 12:00 pm then take me to run tests. The surgery will take about 2 hours and then I'll be in recovery for an hour. Unfortunately I cannot have ANY fluids tomorrow and with such a late surgery I believe I'm going to have a tough time keeping my mind preoccupied.

Hubby and I ate at the hotel restaurant. I had chicken broth (soooooo yummy), Water and hot tea. I took another broth back to the room with me so I can get in as much Fluid as possible before midnight.

They said the hospital has Wifi so hopefully I'll be able to give you an update tomorrow! :-)

I got to the hospital and filled out paperwork, spoke with the internist. Now I'm waiting on EKG and IV. I was so dehydrated they had a terrible time getting blood samples. I'm sure the IV won't be easy. It's so late in the day and I haven't had any fluids so I'm pretty dehydrated.

EKG and blood pressure were great. Now I'm waiting to go back and meet the anesthesiologist and surgeon.

Yes...they had to do some digging to get blood samples. Thankfully I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I'm so ready to go back and get this over with! I'm really not nervous at all anymore. I'm hungry...but that's about it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
