My sleeve is angry

Recommended Posts

I need some help. I was put on solid foods on Thursday October 9th....two days ago to be exact... And I feel horrible after I eat anything. I tried salad... Have total indigestion... Chicken... Burping indigestion... I am weighing it... 2 or three ounces... Fine while I am eating... 20 minutes later... Horrible... I want to throw up.. But I don't . I don't want to eat anymore. I hate this feeling. Can anyone tell me what is going on. I had a test on Thursday ... My doctor said my sleeve looked great... I really need some suggestions. Alyce

All my eating instructions say to eat the foods that I "tolerate well." And if I don't tolerate those foods well, I'm to stop eating them, try some others, and then reintroduce the offending foods weeks or months later to see what happens.

My instructions also say that meats (including chicken) should be moist and not dry or stringy. Tonight I had BBQ salmon and ate it with a tablespoon of sour cream. Same thing with chicken. A little melted cheese can sometimes make a meat just the little bit moister that my sleeve appreciates.

Good luck.

Foods need to be moist, for sure, epecially meat. I was still at around 1/2 cup total food volume through my third month post-op. At nine months out, I haven't even tried salad greens yet. Early on, Miss Tummy and I had a disagreement over whether or not I should eat cauliflower with cheese. Four miserable hours later, Miss Tummy won that argument and gave my cauliflower back to me,

You will have to reintroduce foods slowly and pay attention to what your new stomach is telling you. Don't think of this as having a smaller stomach....think of this as having a new stomach that you don't know what the hell it likes, and you are going to have to figure it out by trial and error. Be gentle, and keep portions small until you and your stomach come to an understanding. In this game, your stomach makes all of the rules. Don't give up the fight. You are in this to win it. You have no choice.

Do you get the same reaction when you eat soft foods or purees? Maybe you just need a little more time. Can't tell how many weeks since surgery, but my NUT said to wait 2-3 months before eating raw vegetables because they are a little harder to digest. It's different for everyone.

My nut said no raw vegetables or salads for 4 to 6 months. As for chicken, I am 4 months out, and can only have boneless skinless chicken thighs. Chicken breast are toooo dry, no matter how I cook them. I eat a lot of shrimp, and ground turkey.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
