Following up with surgeon question

Recommended Posts

I started my pre-op sleeve journey in May of this year and found out the hospital group I wanted to go through was not part of my insurance plan (despite the headaches, trials and tribulations of getting emails on the contrary, thanks Anthem) and ended up being a shoo-in for another program in the area since all my pre-op workups were done.

Since working with this new surgical group, I feel like I have been completely on my own. My surgeon was great, he answered my questions, but the office staff, the nurses, the scheduling, the prescription refills.... all a disaster. I'm so beyond frustrated with this group, as I called for over a week to get a refill on my omeprazole and was told my MD was in surgery and he'd get to it, his directions were to double up on my dose (was having some acid issues) and he'd eventually call it in, and the receptionist would email him "when she had a chance".

They messed up my surgery date three times, I booked it on a specific day as my boyfriend travels for work but was planning to fly home the day before surgery to be here for me. They changed my surgery date without my approval and no notification and was a battle for a week (the week before surgery, mind you) to get the date back to the originally planned date/time. I only found out because they never sent me my pre-op paperwork to meet with a nurse to do an EKG and tell me which medication I can take the morning of surgery, and the nurse said her paperwork said 8/26, when it was originally planned for 8/28.

I've reached out to the nutritionists office (they are in the surgeons office) for help only to repeatedly get to voicemail with no call back. These aren't the only issues I've faced and I've been struggling.

I'm supposed to have my one month post op follow up tomorrow and I'm going to cancel the appointment. Is it worth it to follow up with another bariatric surgeons office? This is a huge life changing surgery and I have felt really alone without any support from my healthcare team, but I'm not sure if it's just worth it to follow up only with my PCP going forward.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. I've been regretting this surgery since day one, despite almost 30lbs lost, I feel really alone in this.

I'm new here but I would go to the appointment because you can now voice your concerns with the surgeon, whose practice it is and he needs to know how his office staff treats patients and your frustration. Hopefully this will help him realize what's going on and you can get the answers you need.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
