A little worried.

Recommended Posts

Day 6 PO surgery. I have had a dry throat tickle all this week which makes me have a uncontrolled cough especially during sleep hours. I asked my Dr., about coughing he said "don't " as it could cause leakage . How do you not cough? I'm trying to suppress it but it's very hard. It's not a heavy cough but I'm still afraid I'm causing damage. Does anyone have any ideas or experienced this?

Also I found a spot of blood on my bed sheets and one on my tee shirt. I think it's from one of my incisions. Should I be concerned. It's Saturday and we are driving back home today. 2 1/2 hour drive. We live in the mountains so things are a little far way.

I'm starting to spin my self out of control! Help!

Thank God for this site as I don't think others understand.

When they put you under they put a hose down your throat to help you breath. Most likely the cough is from that. When it happens take a sip of Water okay! The bleeding on the incision. I would have them look at that at least before you leave the hospital.

Check for a temperature and if you have one it could be a start of a cold. I don't know for sure since I am not a Dr. But I do know that after they take the tube out most people get a tickle irritated cough! :)

Yeah, I had that dry cough, too. I assumed it was from the tube down my throat (anesthesia dealio and the hiatal hernia repair) and possibly from the oxygen I used a little bit in hospital.

Little spot of blood on your teeshirt? Wouldn't worry about it. You could've even scratched a mosquito bite.

Relax.

I had small blood spots on my shirts for the first few days after the dressings came off my incisions. Its normal. The "scabs" or whatever were just leaking/creating the scab... your bodies way of healing itself. I wouldnt worry unless the site is red and inflamed looking. And, from my knowledge, if you feel relatively normal, you are probably just fine. A cough here and there with no leak symptoms afterward... well I wouldnt worry. Just remember, although leaks happen, its very very unlikely.

I was told to cough to expell anything in my lungs from breathing tube. Just keeping a cup of Water close by for the tickle.

Yup, my incisions leaked like that too...enough to make a stain on whatever I was wearing.

I did not have a cough so I cannot comment on that. However, I had a dry throat (sounded like I had a bad cold) for about 4 days after surgery because of the intubation during surgery.

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
