Haven't posted on this thread in a while but I wanted to congratulate all the new sleevers and tell the ones who are about to be sleeved good luck! This is one of the best decisions you could have ever made for yourselves. :) I was sleeved on April Fools Day this year and am 7 lbs. from goal: 59 lbs. lost since I started my journey this year. I am healthier (no more sleep apnea, GERD, high cholesterol), more energetic, and certainly happier.

Hello all my sistas.... I'm a newbie.... I have bcbs fed and I'm required to complete a 3 month supervised diet... Just completed my initial visit on July 24th so I have 3 more visits to go......Hope to have everything completed around Oct and then submit to insurance.....I'm really excited about my new life.....

Right now I weigh 225lb and I'm 5 '6 tall......have HB pressure and I have sleep apnea. I will be so happy when I'm able to toss that CPAP machine off my night stand and get off these BP meds.

I'm going to my PCP for my 3 month diet.....

Can she talk to me about lab work on my visits?

Is only exercise and good eating habits allowed in her notes?

How strict was your insurance on the supervised diet?

Hi! Im new here. Signed up for this very forum thread. I am 22 y/o, 260lb, and pre opt. There arent too many people i can talk to AND be able to relate to them. All the women at my WLS Group meetings are White or Hispanic/Latino. Its nice to be among other black people. Plus im sure i wont get any "But you're so young!" here. Currently 3 people in my life knows im doing this. My mother, My Husband, My Closest Friend.

I am a Military spouse and i am currently going through tricare and a MTF to get my Surgery. I havent got a surgery date yet but ive jumped through all the hoops(6 month surpervised diet, tests, NUT classes) All i need to do is get the results from my sleep study then i will get the surgeons 2 week diet plan along with my surgery date! Im so excited. Ive been overweight since i can remember. In fact, my whole family is. Its hard staying fit when your Family has a cookout every weekend for no particular reason other than "We still alive!". All that greasy food, haha.I started my insurance approval process back in Late october so it's been a long year. Its so comforting that its almost over and all my hardwork has lead up to this. Anywho! I look forward to the support in the future! I plan on starting a youtube channel to record my progress as well. B)

New here and so glad I found this thread. I don't have a date yet, but I've been to a seminar, seen the dietician, and therapist, so far everything is going good and moving along pretty fast. I see the Bariatric Dr again at the end of this month, and hopefully I will have a date set. Good luck to all of you ladies, and I look forward to hearing your stories and updates.

Thanks! It was fairly easy once I got started. I visited my surgeon once a month for 6 months so that they could monitor my weight and check my diet. I was required to visit the psychologist once per my insurance and my surgeon required 3 visits with the nutritionist. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. It's getting closer!

This surgery is a journey. I am nearly 2months out and I have learned so much about how i depended on food for my emotions. I am just recently getting my groove with having a soft diet ( my surgeon requires 6 month fork tender and soft food) but I have lost nearly 40 pounds in 2 months! I tend to get all or near my 60g of Protein a day but struggle with fluids. I have had to really work on eating slow because that still seems to be a habit that is hard to break. I find that weight loss surgery and the discussion thereof is very taboo in the African American community. But it appears where I live there they are more African American women overweight and obese and unhealthy then there are there aren't. I live in North Carolina. Up until my surgery I didn't tell anyone other then my spouse and my Inlaws. Now I tell anybody that wants to know I think I've gained confidence to the fact I could care less what they think. And is already now so what? I am learning how to adjust to my new life but it's a fun journey to make. I encourage anyone going into this to keep an open mind and remember the reasons for doing it because it will help get you through the not so fun parts in the very beginning.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
