SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!

Recommended Posts

I'm 10 days out and not experiencing any pain or soreness. I did have a couple of instances where I started out feeling fine--shopping, in class and I just had to stop and go home. Now it's better and I know not to push myself too hard now.

One thing that surprised me was an episode of GOUT. If you have unexplained joint pain in your toes, toe joints, ankles, you need to get to your doctor. Mine always starts out wondering what shoes I wore that rubbed my toe wrong then I notice the purpleish tinge to the skin and head to the doctor. This all comes from the almost pure Protein diet. If you've had gout before, you're likely to have a flare up.

sleeved on 9.8. back at work 9/18- 13 hour day yesterday. did just fine. Fluid intake unlimited. Can take in a few ounces in a few minutes without any problems which is good as I really don't get breaks to sit down during day. On 2 Protein supplements a day and 3 mushy/pureed 4 weight oz daily. No pain no problems. Diarrhea has stopped, less flatulence.

Only thing is I get HUNGRY- thought was not going to at this point, less than 2 weeks out.

New sleevers- hang in there! You'll get to the other side soon.

Any sleevers with sore throat even couple days after surgery from scope? If so, what are you doing to remedy it?

Sleeved on 9/16 and today was my first full day home. I'm still battling a little with nausea as I threw up my pain pill and my Protein Shake, but vomiting was less painful today then it was yesterday-- so that's an improvement. I have had a hard time getting down liquids (I'm on full liquids), so today I probably got in about 16 oz of liquid and a sf ice pop, not good.

The only thing that surprises me is how weak and tired I still am. I probably sleep 40 minutes out of each hour.

The other weird problem I have been having is that my skin is having a reaction to either the steri strips or glue they use so my incisions are red and itchy! The surgeon told me I should try to peel the steri strips off and take a benedryl.

Is anyone running a fever? The pain is tolerable, but this fever worries me.

I think you should seek medical attention to play it safe.

Hi I was sleeved 18 September and I had only one day of really bad nausea for the same reasons. My dr has taken me back to injections or through the drip and using other fluids to try and help me..

I don't know about you but I certainly did have about 5 to 8 hours of what the hell are you doing to yourself..

I have been very tired also but this is slowly passing, as started drinking gateraide for a boost and it seems to help.

I have not tried Protein Shakes yet but I guess when my surgeon puts me on them I will see soon enough.. Chin up and

Good luck..

Get some over the counter cortisone 1% and apply to itchy areas around the wounds (not to the wounds) twice daily.you may be having irritation reaction to the adhesive

Hi all, I am new to this forum and have a few questions.

My name is Cassy and I got my gastric sleeve on September 10th at 9am. I'm very pleased with my weight loss and the overall effects of surgery, but my surgical experience was terrible! I woke up in recovery feeling as if I was being suffocated due to the gas pressure which lasted a day. A lot of my hospital stay was a blur of pain meds and long naps. I've had a c section and gallbladder surgery, but this was by far the most painful procedure. I'm so jealous of those who had no issues! I was out of the hospital in 2 1/2 days and I'm currently eating soft foods. I am already back to work. I'm a CT technologist and I'm on my feet 12 hour shifts. Is anyone else feeling sore and worn down? Any helpful suggestions. I'm scared to drink a 5 hour energy, but I'm a night shifter and have an hour drive into work and need to stay awake! Any helpful suggestions on boosting my energy?

I was sleeved on 9/11 in the afternoon. I remember nothing after the pre-op room until the recovery room. On a scale of 1 to 10, I was asked to rank pain, which I gave '3' (low). I slept the afternoon and early evening. I remember my wife and son visiting, but I wasn't very talkative. I watched high school football on ESPN and started dry heaves at 1AM. Dehydration was my biggest issue in the hospital and to some extent since then.

I have not had any nausea episodes since that first night. As soon as I started eating Protein, Mr. Poop came. I have started my chewable Calcium and multi-vitamins. I resumed work six days after surgery, because late paperwork prevented me from working in the office on day five.

I enjoy the Premier Protein shakes. Muscle Milk appears to have to much carbohydrate. I bought the sample pack from Chike....I guess it is an acquired taste. Right now I am getting my ahead around the mechanics of pureed meat for late next week.

I had dehydration in the hospital and they put stuff in the IV for that. I'm still on liquid diet to help my stomach heel for 2 more weeks. Starting Vitamins also add B12 it seems to help with energy and keep Water with you all the time. I go back to work Monday and have started at the gym too. My recovery has been fairly easy. Best of luck on your recovery.

Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well! I can't take the Protein Shakes. They give me horrible pain. I'm not sure if it's gas or reflux or something else. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I tolerate all other liquids fine.:/

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
