Recommended Posts

Did anyone experience gas pains for an extended time after surgery?...they are definitely getting better but at this point they are just nagging pains and really irritating. More so than my incisions :(. I can't take my pain Med (hydrocodone) cuz it makes me dizzy as all heck.

I'm only 3 days out, I had mine on 8/28. I still have bad gas pains, but their not steady. I would have one bad one for about a few seconds then be fine for about a minute before next pain. I'm able to take the hydrocodone, but it seems to give me slight chills and makes me sleepy. It's expensive, so I try to only use it when seems unbearable and I try to save it for when getting ready to goto sleep for the evening. I would just give it time and remind yourself that you just had the surgery and you still need to heal, especially on the insides. Hang in there. I try to hold a blanket or small soft pillow up against where the pain is in chest and by the belly area.

My gas pain never really started until about day 3. I still had some this morning and my surgery was on August 25. It is slowly going away. But I never had it in my chest, mine was in my shoulder.

I had a gas bubble moving around in there for about 9 days.. it was unpleasant but I got daily massages to get it worked out. Literally have someone karate chop your back if your back is sore, it busts up the bubbles.

I had gas pains for about 7 days after surgery. It was really bad right between my shoulder blades. But when I went for my 1 week check up the doctor told me some of that pain was from the hiatal hernia he repaired durning my surgery. Honestly, the worst of my pain has been from the hernia repair. Every time I drink something I have muscle spasms from the hernia repair. It is not too painful just irritating and annoying.

I can't take hydrocodone at all either - it makes me dizzy and nauseous. My doctor gave me oxycodone and it works great. No side effects so far.

I had surgery on 9/3 and I had some gas pains immediately following surgery and then it dispersed. However, starting last night I begin getting really frustrating, persistent gas. I thought it might have been due to mashed potatoes that I ate, but would have thought it would have passed by now if that is the case. I don't know if this is normal? I feel it at the top of my diaphragm and in my right shoulder. I also took a fairly long walk yesterday and wonder if it's possible to have dislodged some residual gas? I resorted to taking my pain meds (haven't taken any in over a week) and that has provided some relief. Has anyone else had any sudden gas over a week after surgery??

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
