New to fifties group

Hi all, I joined this forum in 2011 anticipating surgery, but my employer's insurance would not approve, but then I came down with leukemia and that totally shot it out of the Water. But I am back and hope it will be happening before the end of the year, with Medicare since I had to stop working.

I am looking for anyone who has been sleeved or going to be for support and encouragement.

I hope some will pick this group to communicate with others.

Best wishes on your surgery. Bring a book that you enjoy, if you like reading, sleep. Just do something to distract yourself. I agree flying is miserable but if you keep yourself busy hopefully the time will fly.

Hello everyone! I had my sleeve done in June 2014. It was the best thing that I've ever done. Since June, I've lost almost 40 lbs. Since I lost 30 lbs during the 6-month medical diet--I've lost 70 lbs this year! I'm 53 now--was 52 during the surgery. So glad this group is active! Can't wait to read the Queen's blog!

Hi cybergirl! Congratulations on your success so far! Any protein shake reccommendations? Anyone have suggestions on what to mix the powder with? Water, milk, almond milk , juice?

I have my pre-anesthesia testing tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for things I should be alert to... Any questions I should ask? Thanks.

Just found out I'm allowed home made trail mix on my pre-op diet. No M&M's of course. Any recipe or ingredient suggestions?

Any other food suggestions would be great too. It seems my pre-op isn't liquid only,

Thanks

Hi all, just back from my nuclear stress test and Echo. The girl who did echo said it looks good, stress test on treadmill went good, only had to do 6 min on treadmill. Got my heart rate up fast, the stuff they put in your IV is awful. Metallic tasting, awful.

Now I have the last NUT visit with doctor on 15 th and I start 2 wk liquids that day also. Surgery still on line for Oct 27th.

@@cybergirl welcome! And congrats on your weight-loss.

@@Vsglady wow! You get to have trail mix, lucky you! I have no recipes however a lot of people recommend the site theworldaccordingtoeggface , for recipes

Hi! So excited, I just found this "fifties" group of sleevers. I'm scheduled for Oct. 13. Started my 2 week pre-op liquid diet this past Monday. Had my surgery assessment today! 12 days, I can't believe it's so close now. For those of you that are still inquiring about protein shakes; I found the "Rockin Refuel"to be really good. It has 30 grams of protein and I have one for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Good luck to all of you!!!

@BP'sMamaG welcome! Thanks for the protein suggestion I will try it, I see that they sell it at Walmart.

I start my liquid diet Friday so you're the perfect person to ask ....

How are you doing? Any hunger pains?

Grammy, what does the camera look like that takes the pics on the chemical test. I had one a few years ago and I know I don't remember. Is this one that you lie down and the camera comes down close to your face ? I am claustrophobic and even though I can see it still puts me in panic mode. I don't remember lying down the other time. I can't do an MRI at all, even the open, freaks me out.

Kathy812, I'm doing well...I think. The liquid diet is not that bad. I think I want to chew something is my biggest problem. I did find out yesterday from my NUT that I could chew gum, which helps. Also, she said if I felt weak, I could eat a small amount of protein. So far, I haven't had to do that! Amazingly, those shakes are pretty filling!

LainieG,

You lay on your back and this large square thing (camera) it's really big does come close to your face. It starts on your right side and it moves like 2 inches at a time. It comes up and over you down to your left side. I'm claustrophobic also with the MRI machine, but this one wasn't bad. You put your arms over your head and close your eyes! They do this test twice, during your time there.

Do you have to have this test before surgery?
