Diabetes after weight loss??

Recommended Posts

I had my blood sugar taken the other night and it was near 160 late at night and I didnt have anything to eat. Now I have to go get a two step diabetes test. I wouldnt think that IF I was going to get something like that it would come on After so much weight loss and lack of sugar. Test results are not back yet so maybe its a fluke but very odd anyway. I personally didnt think 160 was that high but I guess the doctor felt it was high enough that I needed a test. Owell lemme know ur thoughts.

That is a little strange! Did they test you before you had surgery? What is your weight now? Im type 1 Diabetic, have been since I was 12. Honestly 160 doesnt sound that bad, but my DH had blood work done and his was 116 fasting and they said that he needed to watch it. Apparently the new standard for a fasting Blood sugar is 100 or less. Either way hopefully its a fluke but if not its good that you caught when you did and atleast it wasnt that high, you should be able to keep it under good control! Keep us posted

I am a type II Diabetes myself~! Even though I feel more like saying I WAS! They say that Diabetes never really goes away but my doctor said that with the weight under control I could take another diabetes test and come out as negative.

Anyway my glucose level was up in the 250's before surgery but since then I get between 72 and 110 everyday.

I hardly even bother checking since it's ALWAYS good.

Had to do a little bit of conversion here since we use mmol/l here in Australia and in Canada as well instead of mg/dl.

I have heard that there can be really rare cases of diabetes onset after big weight loss....good to check in with the dr. 160 isn't outrageous but something to keep an eye on. How are your carbs? Maybe you can work on carbs a little and more Protein and get that all back in line.....

Well the odd thing about being 160 is it was after 12:30midnight, I was at the docs for something totally different the blood sugar just kinda came up after some tests. I hadnt eaten anything since maybe 5pm that night so what made my BS stay that high until after 12 is beyond me I only ate meat for dinner and nothing with it. Anyway I go back tomarrow and I will see and let ya know later

Stress and illness can cause high blood sugar as well. It's not always caused by what you eat. There are many factors that affect your blood sugar. If you were at the doctor's at 12:30 AM, then it might be safe to say that there was some issue that had you there at that time of the night, and you might have been under some undue stress?? Hang in there, diabetes is controllable, with a little effort and vigilance.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
