Is anyone having problems with low blood sugar as a result of bypass surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am now under care by my general doctor for low blood sugar.

I've been having symptoms for months and we finally came to the conclusion that I have low blood sugar levels and have to be watched for the next couple of weeks with recording everything I eat and take my blood sugar levels 4 times a day or when I feel symptoms.

I have now carry hard candy for if I'm out and about I have something with me to bring the blood levels back up quickly.

This is unnerving to say the least and if you are having the same problem what are you doing about it?

I hope this is going to be manageable and not get worse.

This is crazy because I had type 2 diabetes and that's one of the reasons I got this surgery in the first place and now this.

I was having issues with mine too for a while. I believe mine was reactive hypoglycemia. If I ate something like a banana it would drop really low.

Gastric surgery often helps to improve the symptoms of type 2 diabetes because after the surgery, the intestine becomes the most important tissue for glucose use and this decreases the blood sugar levels long before any weight loss has occurred. You also need to eat at regular intervals so as to maintain your blood sugar and not skip meals. Also you should try and eat healthy.

I eat every few hours to keep an even level and my sugar levels still go down when I check my blood before meals and bedtime.

I am eating what i'm suppose to when I'm suppose to. I never skip meals at all.

I am keeping a record of what I eat and of my blood levels so I can see if one thing is better then another at keeping me level, so far nothing has worked to do that.

I am going to keep watching and turn the information to my general doctor when I go to see them.

I want to thank you for responding to me so far.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
