Lap band - 26th July 2014

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I just recently had the lap band surgery... It is day 4 post op now. I thought it would be good to start posting on a forum for support and encouragement.

Generally the healing process has been good but I have been getting a shooting pain in my left shoulder which I have been told is the trapped gas that they use in the surgery. How long does this take to stop?

This seems to get more uncomfortable when I drink my fluids... I don't know if I am drinking too much?

It is the hardest psychologically. One moment I am thinking this is great and exciting and the next minute I am doubting that I made the right decision... when I used to feel down I would turn to binge eating to distract me from these emotions but I can't do this now and it means I have to face these emotions face on which is scary but ultimately I feel this is going to be worth it!

Wish me luck with my continual recovery :)

Nice to hear about your successful surgery and the best part is that you are doing great. If the healing process is good hen nothing to worry about a few setbacks which you might be experiencing will go away with time. You seem to be a strong person so never doubt your decision about the surgery. It is too soon to be up and about but very soon you will recover fully and all this will pass and you will be enjoying the new life you have gifted yourself. So think of all those days and stay happy and healthy.

The gas pains took two weeks to go away for me. Longer than most people. But they did and now it's just a distant memory. I had all of those thoughts and doubts and regrets, but they soon disappear too.

Focus on eating the right things at the right pace and you will be successful.

Best wishes!

I had the surgery on 28th. Haven't had any major complications. Walking and hot pack helps a lot with shoulder pain. I have all conflicting feeling as well Nicky. One day I'm happy with my decision and one day regret it. I think it will pass when I started to see the results. Gets stay string and hopeful :)

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! They have all been really encouraging, I have had quite a positive day today and my hunger seems to be lessening...

Racer, I have had shortness of breath at times, almost as if I momentarily forgot to breathe... not sure what this is.

Just taking one day at a time and I may go for a walk outside tomorrow (have been going on the dreadmill since op)

I talked with my doctor an he said the shortness of breath is due to the swelling of the stomach. With limited space in there for you diaphram to cause the lungs to breath it makes sen! Im glad to know you on this journey!

Just an update guys....

I am now on day 10/11 post op and I feel pretty good! No more gas pains and almost all of my stomach pain has gone, I get a little twinge if I bend down to fast on my biggest scar but that is it.

I have lost 15 pounds already, which is amazing but I am really scared that I am going to get that stage where my body goes into starvation mode and I stop losing :/

I am still on liquid diet, having 3 Protein shakes a day and drinking yoghurt at times... I do get very hungry at times but I just have to think, I am not dying! It is not that terrible a feeling, I am just not used to it. I get to go to soft foods on Sunday which sounds amazing. What kind of stuff would you recommend? I have bought some baby food :) and I was thinking on Sunday I could have some mashed potato and mix in some shredded roast chicken and gravy, would that be okay do you think?

Anyways, let me know how you are all doing :)

Hi there and congratulations on your surgery! Personally, the whole starvation mode thing is something I have decided is something I don't believe in anymore. But that's just me. I figure I've been saving up for the famine and now my body is burning all that fat, yippee! I also don't have Protein goals but find I am just naturally hungry for..... protein!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
