My Nut is making me do the "preparing for bariatric surgery diet. Which I basically following the guidelines for how to eat after surgery. The taking 30 min to eat anything and no drinking while eating and eating the recommended portions sizes and I just feel so hungry throughout the day. I know it's only to help me prepare but it's making me want to ready everything I see. Itv take alot of my will power not to stuff my face and that's really hard. Just want to know if I'm alone in this or are some of you guys hungry to?

I'm no expert, but this seems like a crazy idea to me. If you're eating the diet of a sleeved person and you're not yet sleeved OF COURSE you will be hungry.

I can see the sense of getting used to eating more slowly and not drinking while eating, but eating post-op portion sizes - why? If we could eat tiny portions we wouldn't be here. Surely a NUT worth his/her salt should realize this?

I'm very glad I'm going self-pay and don't have to put up with all this stuff.

Good Luck!

Like SwanRose mentions, I can certainly understand teaching you to eat slowly and to not drink with your meals or 30 minutes after. Those things make sense. I can even see why it would benefit for you to get a look at what the portion sizes will be after, but you are DEFINITELY going to be hungry doing this pre-op. A lot of hunger is "head hunger" where you just think you want to eat, but this would make you have every kind of hunger!

i think that would have been impossible. as most surgeons will tell you, when you have been a chronic overeater your stomach gets really stretched and at capacity, can be as large as a football! my stomach now post op is the size of a highlighter pen. i am FULL after 2-3 oz max. before, sadly i could eat an entire box of hamburger helper with extra rice/pasta added to it, or an entire medium pizza alone. i haven't tried pizza yet but pretty sure one slice won't fit anymore!

i understand that they may be trying to help you 'retrain' your brain, but i think it would be almost like punishment! good luck

I have been trying to do the slow eating, just isn't going to happen now. As far as drinking it goes hand in hand for me... I know I have to learn not to. On 2 allergy pills that dry you up so bad I need that drink in between. I'll bet when I can only eat couple spoonfuls I will do much better.

Wow, to me that seems a bit ridiculous. I was just told to eat how I'll eat after surgery, but normal portions.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
