BCBS OF NC

Hi. I just checked the BCBSNC MEDICAL POLICY UPDATES for JULY 15, 2014. This is what it said.... Requirement that patient be an active

participant in non-surgical weight reduction program for at least 6 months prior to surgery removed. I am sooo excited about this. I have met my deductibles and was going to be pushing it to get my surgery in before December this year.

I only have to have 1 NUT visit and 1 psych eval. Not sure of copays. But I should be ready for insurance submission Aug 12.

Excited, but now I'm concerned for a cruise I'm supposed to be going on in October. I'm worried about the timing.

Duke call me today they said they had everything but the two you weight history and I had that faxed over and they also need approval from the nutritionist that also was faxed and approval from your psychological evaluation that was faxed also all these people have to approve you for the surgery... papers are going to be sent to bcbs tomorrow ...again waiting for approval ; ( shaking in my boots... going to the appointments and getting them done is easy ...it's the out come for approval what matters ...wondering if this office will approve you when you walk out that door good luck to everyone who's trying to make this dream a reality including me ♡

I met with my surgeon yesterday and they have informed if the policy change with BCBS of NC and there is no longer any wait at all! He said that now I just have three more appointments left and they will submit my paperwork. I started my journey the first week of June and will now NOT have to wait until November and I am sooooooo excited. Way to go BCBS!

That's great I know this news from bcbs was like a early xmas gift to me ☆

Same here, tpinto. I've got three appts left before insurance submission!! So excited. I too was on track for November surgery, but now should be sooner!

I am also with BCBS of NC and was so excited when I heard this last week. I was already 5 months in, but at least now I was able to have jumped through the last hoop, and have my stuff submitted! Now I hope they quickly give the approval so I can start my two week pre-op liquid diet.

Anyone else going through BCBS NC that can share how long it took for approval once the dr office submitted final documentation to insurance (everything is done...nut, psych, etc)? I am a teacher, so I am hoping I can have the surgery and have a little time to recuperate before school starts.

Thanks!

Im really not sure how long it may take for the approval bcbs say 48hours if you're straight with all your paperwork im year-round so I would have to take those days off : ) but it's OK any day I should be hearing back from them my papers went out like yesterday

Hi Lucky2014, just wondering if you heard anything yet?!

Best of luck!

My surgeons office told me it could take up to 14 days to hear back. Best of luck! I'm hoping to be submitted around August 15th, give or take.

I just completed my 6 month and was approved earlier this month. The prior review department at BCBSNC only took 3 days for approval and 5 days until I had the approval letter in my hand. Hopefully it will go as smoothly for you as it did for me!

I pray that it will...thanks for the information : )

I am post op 4 days... We submitted all paper work on July 2 and I was approved that Monday. My doctors office now has 600 people who were in the 6 month process wanting surgery asap. I wonder how long people will have to wait for surgery with this influx of everyone . I was happy to do the six months . I learned a lot. This isn't something that should be rushed . Make sure you are ready ! Good luck to all!
