I an almost three weeks post op and I notice that when I have Soups made with milk ore drink milk that shortly afterwards I am very nauseous. I don't get sick but I feel terrible for about an hour.

I have never had any food allergies never had any milk problems but that is the only thing I can think of that has these nauseous times in common with each other. Yogurt doesn't sit well in my stomach either, and cheese is about 50/50. Anyone else have this issue?

It can happen.

Try unsweetened almond milk or soy milk to mix your shakes with.

Instead of whey Protein use egg white protein. You can get that from Jay Robb which is sold at Whole Foods, Amazon, or directly from the company.

Check with your nutritionist about these suggestions and tell them how you feel after eating dairy. See what they say.

Feel better and let us know what happens with the change for you.

I am one week post gastric bypass surgery. Have had all your symptoms, plus horrible gas and diarrhea and finally remembered that they did advise us we could become lactose intolerant following the surgery.

I didn't eat anything yesterday and cleaned out my system. Today I started with lactose free milk and am fine.

Watch out for hidden lactose in sugar free products! Combine those with the milk and it's horrible. I was eating my Protein shakes with Skim Milk and Carnation sugar free Instant Breakfast and it literally had me in bed, in pain, with a fever!

All is well now that I have eliminated lactose!

Best of luck!

Clarissa

Hormones are stored in fat and as your body burns the fat these hormones are released into you're system causing hormone related issues like acne and being emotional. It happens mostly in the first few months when you experience rapid weight loss. It will last a few weeks and will ease up gradually before ending. I had acne for about 4-6 weeks starting about one month out but ending before three months out.

Also, it is common for RNY patients to become lactose intolerant, either suddenly or gradually. It could be permanent or not. Do as your doctor says. It may be temporary. Good protein sources are eggs, seafood, Beans (refried, black, kidney, etc), Protein shakes (some can be made w/water and some with soy or almond milk). Try a protein that is not whey-based. I know there is one that is powdered egg whites, and others are available. If you have access to a nutritionist through your doctor you can ask them for suggestions. Or search this site - I've read of others who are vegetarian one/or lactose intolerant who would have some helpful suggestions for you. Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
