How long post op before hitting the weights?

Recommended Posts

I'm still a long ways from surgery....October or November....and am just excited to be on this path. My plan is to begin hitting the weights after surgery to help tighten skin and get toned and was curious about how soon after surgery I'd be able to start lifting and working out?

As soon as you surgeon clears you to exercise. That may be a couple of weeks. Mine cleared me after 4 weeks for any exercise (I was not allowed lifting >40lbs in the first 3 weeks).

I would follow your surgeons advise about this and the schedule of when it's okay to exercise.

After bypass you will have to take it slow and build up your strength steadily a little at a time.

I wasn't allowed to exercise beyond walking until two weeks after surgery then I could only do the treadmill at the gym and a life cycle.

Now I do the stationary bicycle at least 8.50 miles on level 6 in 40 minutes.

I also plan to get the help of a trainer to learn other methods of exercise including weights to help rearrange and tighten up my body.

Good luck and the best for your upcoming surgery.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone! I'm definitely going to follow everything the surgeon says. I want everything to go as smoothly as possible. I just want to attempt to tighten/tone as the weight comes off.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
