What's the best position for sleep post-op?

Recommended Posts

I've been home from the hospital two days now and still feel so uncomfortable! ! If I try to sleep on either side I feel a tugging sensation. This reminds me of when i was pregnant in my last trimester when all I could do was sleep in a recliner. Any suggestions? Sleepless in the Bx

The best way I found was rolling a blanket/duvet up and lying on my side with that tucked underneath my stomach. Anything that supported my stomach really helped!

I mostly slept on my back but as marywithoutsound has said if you lye on your side have something up against your stomach area it helps

For the first week, I slept on my back with extra pillows to keep me inclined, and another under my knees. I hate back-sleeping. I was quite happy with I could lay on my side without too much trouble at around day 7. I would have tried propping a pillow or rolled blanket under my tummy to side-sleep, but there just wasn't room in the bed (I share with bf, and didn't want to take over the entire bed)

agreed with above. On my side with small pillow under my stomach or in a recliner for the first few days.

I am an active sleeper, rolling like a croc all night long. I spent the first 2 weeks in a recliner that my husband moved to exactly next to the bed from downstairs. Since I've gone to the bed, most nights I am mildly uncomfortable when I wake up with an achiness but for me by the time I tried at 2 weeks, the tugging/pulling feeling was gone. Also (I don't know how smart this was) but I wore compression type Spanx to bed up to my bra line and that really "supported" me for the first little bit in the bed. That was only about three or four nights.

I had to sleep in a lazy boy chair for the first 2 weeks. i had bad reflux and I am a side sleeper so it hurt my stomach-tugging feeling. After the 2 weeks I was fine to sleep in bed on my side. Good luck to you.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
