Today is day one after having my laparoscopic sleeve done yesterday. I guess you can't count the first day (or so the nurse has told me). I am currently writing from my hospital room and I can't tell you the pleasure it brings me to be up and around, feeling good and seeing a very bright future. Its been a long road to get to this point but I gained the knowledge and the courage with the time.

I was not super open about having this done with friends or family for the first part of this journey due to the fact I really didn't want to hear their opinions, horror stories they have heard, or even their praise until I myself was secure with the decision. Its a tough fact to face that without this surgery my chances of living a full and active life would have been slimmer. I did not do this for vanity, though the thought of running into a reg. sized store to get an outfit for a special occasion does bring me pleasure. I suffer with PCOS, Rheumatoid arthritis, the history of gestational diabetes which raises my chances to have full blown diabetes in the very near future, not being as active as I could or should be due to the fatigue of not eating healthy, and the everyday discomfort and of carrying around the extra weight. Those were more than enough reasons to have the surgery but my biggest reason was for my children. I want to be a role model for them and be around to see the next phases of their lives. College, marriage, children, all things I cant wait to experience with them. It is important for me to be there for them and at the same time reap the joys of watching your children grow into who they will eventually become as adults.

I have had little pain compared to what I believed it would be and the hospital staff is so eager to help in anyway they can. I am so grateful to have made it to this point and am excited to share the best beginning I could have asked for. I wish everyone who takes this step to have the same feelings of hope and comfort in their new beginning.

Thank you to everyone who has posted here to share their stories and thank you to those that took the time to read my first post. I will do my best to continue to share my path with you and take comfort in knowing I'm not going it alone.

Tomorrow is one week since my sleeve surgery and I'm feeling great. I will see my dr. This Wednesday for my first week visit and I'm excited to see the results and hear what comes next. It's an exciting time.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
