Post-Surgical Eating Avoidance FB Group

Recommended Posts

I have created a support group on Facebook for those who believe they suffer from Post-Surgical Eating Avoidance. Although this isn't a diagnosable eating disorder in this version of the DSM, I believe there might be quite a few of us who may need specialized support for this issue.

PsEAD may be characterized by a overwhelming fear of regaining weight, avoidance or fear of eating too many calories or the wrong types of foods, and unreasonable restriction of food choices out of anxiety about gaining or not losing weight.

I also welcome anyone who has suffered any kind of eating disorder pre-surgery to join, because the risk of developing new eating disorder patterns after surgery is much greater for us.

Here is the link. Please join or pass it on to anyone you know who may need a little extra support.

Please note that while I do have a degree in psychology, I am not a licensed mental health professional. The group was created with the purpose of creating a support network for this issue. Thanks! :)

Sounds sort of like anorexia to me.

Sounds sort of like anorexia to me.

While it does have some of the same characteristics, it is a bit different. Anorexics tend to starve themselves purposely, while those with food avoidance want to eat but have trouble doing so out of anxiety. Again, it is very similar, but also very different.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
