Am I really making the right decision?

Recommended Posts

I'm starting to second guess my decision and I don't know if its nerves. I've signed the contract so no turning back but I'm scared. Did I make the right choice? Am I going to have any regrets? Am I ready for the hard work?? Anyone else feel this before their surgery

I think most people have some doubts and nerves prior to surgery. It's completely normal. Only you can know whether this is the right decision for you. I will share with you -- that list you posted a little while ago about all the things you want to do after surgery? That could have been my list, and now I've crossed every single thing off that list (well I'm still working on the whole learning to love my body thing). And I know it would have never happened without surgery.

In my view, YES I think you will succeed. You KNOW this is going to be hard work. You know it is possible to fail. These things are essential! You have clear goals in front of you and a good picture of what you want from surgery. You may be nervous but I think you have all the tools to do great -- a clear perspective, a healthy dose of fear (to keep you on track) and determination. The ones I worry about are the ones who think this is going to be easy and that there's no way they could mess it up. I think you will do extremely well. Good luck! :)

I think everyone felt that at some point before surgery. I had doubts that morning when they

wheeled me into the operating room, but at that point I figured "too late now". It's not easy.

I've always thought surgery was the easy way out, but I was wrong. The first month is difficult,

you will probably have regrets during the first few weeks. However, it gets better, you get more

energy, you lose weight, faster than you ever thought possible and that keeps you going. I will be

2 months out in 2 days and I can finally say I am happy I did it. I am down 42 lbs in 2 months, itwould have taken me 4 or 5 months to lose that without surgery. Think of the reasons you want to

do it and see if it outweighs not doing it. I had high blood pressure and was finding it difficult

to do any kind of activity. I never had any energy and was getting depressed. I was avoiding the

mirror. I hated the way I looked. I'm getting better now. Just read up about it and keep going on

this forum to read everyone's experience and then make your decision. Good luck.

Thanks for the positive posts! It is scary but I do know that I can do! I've lost a ton of weight before by only changing my eating habits, because I am very active! My problem is its not realistic and I can never keep it off! I have done all the programs, weight watchers, herbal magic- that was successful - but a pill is not a tool and once I stopped taking the pill I started gaining weight again! I am a planner and want to know and hear all before I have surgery! And of course all the support is needed!

I felt the same way, actually chickened out a few years ago, 1/2 way through the process for the lap band I lost a ton if weight and backed out. This past sept I could barely fit in my class A uniform and started the process for the sleeve, the morning jan 24th I was scared to death and almost walked out of hospital and now over 4 months out I am in the best shape of my life, so much more energy worki out all the time, in fact my wife saw how successful I'm doing and has decided to have the surgery as well.

My only regret was not doing it sooner.

Best of luck

You can always back out. There is never a time when you cannot.

However, with that said, I think you are trying to say you are freaked out about the surgery. I am too. In fact, they have even postponed my tests until I am sure.

Good luck to you! I am sure you will do well.

I believe that everyone feels the way that you do prior to surgery at some point or another. Everyone's experience is unique both pre and post op. I cancelled my surgery because I felt I was doing so well on my own maybe this time I could be successful. The moment I pulled back I put on 12 lbs in 4 weeks. I phoned my clinic that day after I stepped off the scale and had my surgery little under 2 months later. I don't regret having cancelled the first surgery because at the time of surgery I had already dealt with all of my 'what if's' and was certain that I needed the extra help to change my life. I am now 6 months post op and so grateful that I decided to go ahead with it! Only you know what is best for you, just do your research of both the procedure and everything that goes with it and of your doctor and his team. A lot of the post op complications could be better prevented or more effectively treated if you choose the right team. Also prepare to be your own advocate if something does feel wrong then insist you keep pushing to get satisfaction. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
