In 2 weeks my life will be changed forever.

To anyone that has already has this surgery.....info or advice on what to pack!??

I'm supposed to stay one night after surgery and want to be as comfy as possible. Do we

Bring our own pjs? What about the drive home...stretchy shorts I'm assuming!!?

Sooooooooo ready!!

Kmf- I read the what to bring post and really stripped the list down after going thru it.

I have surgery tomorrow and am brining: ipad & phone with chargers, chapstick, earplugs (in case it's noisy) eye mask (help me sleep) I'm wearimg a big comfortable dress in and out, small pillow and a tiny fan (in case it's hot in the room) toothbrush & paste and slip on sandals

All this will fit in a backpack. No makeup no extra clothes. I'm there to have surgery, drink Water and get the heck out of there.

Hello all. July 2 here. I'm about 1 week postop here. Glad it's over. I stayed one night. Didn't wear anything but hospital gowns and packed for more. I slept a lot. I am still excessively tired. I got up and started walking as soon as I could. The gas from surgery sucks. I wasn't anticipating that. I wasn't expecting the abdominal drain. Not pretty, but not a problem. They said walking helps. Learning to sip instead of gulp has been difficult. All in all, I'm so glad I did this. I still have some gas pains, but I know it will get better. I have my first follow up in 2 days. It's just a totally new experience. I wish you all the best and look forward to hearing everyone's progress.

I overpacked. I didn't use anything other than a hair brush, toothbrush and toothpaste. You don't need pj's or a robe. I was there less than 24 hrs and left wearing the same thing I wore in (big comfy tshirt and lounge pants and flip flops). Good luck!

So happy to hear the positive feedback.. I have surgery tomorrow and I'm going thru all the anxiety feelings.. I was so snappy yesterday and hungry.. I thought about backing out but I know it's not the right thing to do.. Keep us informed so we know what to expect.. Good Luck!

You are gonna be just fine. I was the same way just last week. I was excited and freaking at the same time. The only advice I could offer right now is:

1. Try to relax and think about the final outcome.

2. Get up and walk as absolutely soon as possible. If you feel like you can make another trip down the hall, DO IT! I really think it helped my recovery. There were two others that day that had surgery. I think I was in the middle. I left before them and never saw them up. I did hear nurses tell the they would feel better sooner. I think I did.

3. Don't wait until the next day to get meds. I was prescribed the Tylenol with Codeine, and a few for nausea. Luckily, no nausea, but the Tylenol DID help me sleep and nap.

4. You're gonna be exhausted, so rest well, and walk around the house.

I booked my day of 7/24 in early June and just got a call that they are not sure now if the doctor will be available that day to do my surgery. I'm freaking out. Scheduled that far out to work around vacations at work and other things, will be ticked off if he can't do it now. I don't want another doctor to do it because my doctor is the top surgeon in the area for this surgery. AUGH!! Why can't things ever work out like they are supposed to. Now I'm playing the wait game for a call back to advise if I need to move my date.

I am 5 days post-op and drinking seems to be getting much easier and the only pain is in my left shoulder blade (gas). I have been walking, doing my best to sip and not gulp. My stomach still is swollen, but I'm sure that will take some time to go down. Overall, I am feeling fine and I am very excited about the future. I have my first doctor visit tomorrow too! :)

Not sure if your Dr gave you a list of items for postop. I bought sugar free Jello and Popsicles, Beef and chicken broth, and Isopure. The Isopure has the Protein you'll need for at least the first week. It was easy to put down before surgery, but not so easy now. Buy Water and G2 Gatorade. Keep sippin water and get up walking as soon as you can.

I'm excited too!! I'm looking forward to my first visit. Can't wait till the swelling and pains disappear too. Not bad though. The worst part is the low and up/down energy levels which I'm sure will bounce back. I'm bringing naps back into style. ????. Good luck tomorrow!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
