Ok, I had surgery June 2nd. When I first got home I could only handle sips. I feel like I want to take larger drinks (not gulps). I have taken a couple and it doesn't seem to hurt anything...will this stretch out my stomach?

Also I am going to buy some sugar free Popsicles. Do I have to wait until they are unthawed before I eat them? Dr had told me to beware of anything too hot or cold.

I have so many questions! Thanks for your input!

Don't be afraid to drink! You will not be able to gulp, but you do not need too, either. The ice pops will melt as you eat them Enjoy them frozen.

Fluids really won't stretch your stomach since it goes through so quickly. Just don't gulp because that can come with air which can get uncomfortable. Take bigger sips but sloooowww so that you aren't putting any strain on your staples by putting too much in too fast. At 3 months out I can take normal drinks but I am still careful not to gulp. I love my water!

I was able to gulp at day 3. I learned this by accident. Doc says dont worry about it. I watch the after surgery floroscope. The contrasting dye went right through me with a slight delay entering the stomach due to swelling and another slight delay exiting the stomach. Total time less than 2 seconds. According to my doc there are basically two types of patients. There are the ones that liquids go right through which are the majority and then there are those that have problems with liquids the minority. I am still on the anything that can go though a straw post op diet. This also includes yogurt. I usually take my time eating but it only takes me 10 to 15 minutes to down a bowl of Soup. I could do it much quicker , but eating slow is one of the new eating behaviors we are suppose to be learning. I have also not felt much of a restriction. I hear that will change once I am on solids. Per my doc I am to consintrate on getting my liquids in and not eat solid food. Protein is not a focus yet. Healing and hydration is what is important in weeks 1 thru 3, possibly 4. Down 28 lbs as of today. Surgery was on 5-28

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
