2 days post op with hunger

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Tuesday. I'm on the clear liquid diet. I have been able to drink 64 ounces of Water, sugar free Popsicles, jell-o, and water with bouillon cubes. I feel hungry and I can drink 8 ounces of Soup at a time. I'm stopping at the recommended 4 ounces but I'm struggling. I though my hunger would be under control. I'm hoping when I move to full liquids and can have Protein Shakes this will get better. Does any one have any similar experience?

My appetite comes and goes and the nausea stays for me.

It may be head hunger because you shouldn't be able to handle more than 4 oz. of liquid in your pouch right now. This early after the surgery, I would just call the doc and ask what you should do. Maybe you can just handle the surgery better than most people!

Don't over do the drinking of more then 4oz at a time. Drink very slowly.

You could do damage to your pouch.

Be really careful you don't want any problems to occur.

I drink very slowly and as soon as I feel pressure I stop. Wait for it to away and resume drinking. My guess is maybe since it's all Water that's why it's going down easier. I also recover very quickly from surgeries. I was up walking an hour after they got me to my room. I will call the doctor though and ask him. Thanks!

My hunger was back full force on day 5. Things will get better once you are on pureed, and especially when you start solids. Also, I hadf no feeling of fullness til 5 weeks out. On the 6th week I suddenly got incredible restriction. Its amazing!

That's great news! You did RNY? That makes me hopeful. Also, I woke up this morning and didn't feel hungry like I did going to bed last night. I'm down 12 pounds since my surgery three days ago! I'm sure it's mostly Water weight, but still it's nice to see the scale moving. Keeps me motivated!

Yes, sit tight, it will be all good. First weeks are the hardest. Congrats on your weight loss! oh and yes, I had RNY. Loads of us feels the hunger, and I do not talk about head hunger, but it is actual painful hunger. If you feel hunger drink first. Then wait half an hour and if you are still hungry then eat. (I don't know when will you start pureed stage, I was lucky and my doctor progressed me fast, on day 5 I was on pureed, day 10 solids, and thank god for that!)

Update: I called my doc and told her how easy the Water and Clear Liquids were going down. She said that was a sign I was healing really fast. She said even after surgery I didn't show signs of swelling. So she took me off the clear liquids and moved me to fill liquids. So now I can have Protein Shakes and milk and such. We'll see how that goes. It's exciting though. I'm in good spirits and not craving too much junk. Lol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
