Yes all is good. I'm a little worried about my incision sites. They are very sore and one is open. I have to pack it with gauze every day. They told me it needs to heal from the inside out. I am going to try sleeping in my bed for the first time tonight. I've been sleeping in the recliner as it was so much more comfortable. I'll find out Tuesday at my first follow up.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure you're watching for infection. Please be careful and let us know how your follow up goes on Tuesday.

I had my surgery May 13th as well. Came home Thursday and started Protein Shakes Friday only to find I have become lactose intolerant. Spent most of the day friday in the bathroom and throwing up. It all subsided by midnight. I'm a little frustrated because I feel like that set me back two days in the recovery process. I ended up going back to Clear Liquids for all of Saturday and then started back on full liquids yesterday. The worst pains right now are gas pains, but walking seems to help with that. My energy is slowly increasing and I am not napping at all during the day now. I am able to get all my fluids in, and Vitamins, but am waiting for new Protein Powder to come in the mail that is lactose free. I am only getting in about 30g of Protein right now between lactaid milk, Greek yogurt, and small amounts in the Soup and pudding. Looking forward to my purée diet that I start tomorrow!!! :)

Just had my Protein Shake. .. It's going to take some time to get used to it. It was hard taking my Vitamins. Tried some of the samples. The Celebrate were the best but still hard to take. Still haven't had any Soup yet, not hungry. ... Have my first post op f/u tomorrow.

I had surgery May 12th, but I was just released today because I contracted c-diff while there. So I am struggling with hydration. I am supposed to start a little Protein Shake and yogurt, but I am having a hard time telling if I have enough in my new pouch. It makes me real nervous. I don't want to do any damage but I am so bloated from the c-diff as well. So frustrating.

Surgery was 5/7/14.

Things are going well. Scars healing, no pain.

Got on the scale for the second time today. Weight down 7 lbs in the past week (total of 16 since surgery).

No hunger. Almost have to remember to eat and drink. Ah, drinking, unless I consciously think about it, it is difficult to drink the 100 oz of Water a day. But we press on.

Hi...just checking in. RNY was completed at noon yesterday. So far my experience has been incredible. I have a morphine pump, but really have no pain. Slept most of the night and I just started on sips of Water. Will progress to different stages throughout the day. Supper will be cream Soup and as long as that goes well I will be discharged tonight!! Thank you all so much for the positive thoughts and well wishes. Now please push over and give me some room on the losers bench :)

Almost two weeks out and finally starting to feel like myself again! Energy is coming back a little more each day and the gas pains have seemed to go away for the most part. As far as eating, I am officially on the soft food diet as of today. Everything has gone down just fine so far. :) The only problem I'm having is Protein Shakes. They are disgusting. The taste, the texture, the sweetness...it all is gross. My Protein intake without them is somewhere around 40g a day. As far as fluids and Vitamins those are going good. The weight is starting to come off! Yay!! Came home from the hospital 10 pounds heavier than when I left, but I knew it would come off. Looking forward to losing more and becoming a more healthy mom. Pre-surgery 5/7/14 264.8 Day of surgery 5/13/13 256.6 Today 5/24/14 244.4 (17.4 pounds gone!)

I had my bypass surgery May 7th. Everything has been great, but I noticed when I woke up yesterday and then every time I get up today I am dizzy. It goes away once I sit back down.

Anyone else getting dizzy? Does anyone know why I am?

Hello all,

I am very new to this site as you can see by my profile. I had been looking into this app/site for a few weeks prior to my surgery. The iPhone app is kind of terrible (anyone else agree?) so I've finally decided to just get on my laptop and figure it all out. I'm glad that this website exists because I really have no one to talk to about this stuff and everyone will probably just think I'm complaining anyhow.

My surgery was May 21st and to be completely honest, it's been pretty miserable for me. The surgery "wounds" were so painful and no one really warned me of how painful it could really be. I'm a pretty happy person so my family and friends thought it strange in the hospital when I was all down and not even a hint of a smile.

Let me back up by saying, I've never had surgery in my life. I have my tonsils, appendix, gall bladder, etc., which doctors and nurses were all surprised by for some reason. Anyhooooo

Since it's the 6th day post-op, I've been feeling much better with my belly pain. However, I've had diarrhea ever since I went the first time after surgery. (I know it's gross, but I can't be the only one!?!) I also have nausea every day that comes and goes with no real pattern. My doc suggested that I try soy Protein drinks, instead of whey Protein Drinks. Thus far, it has not made a difference. I prefer my whey Protein Drink (Isopure) because it's clear so it's much easier to ingest and actually get the proper amount of Protein in a day.

Does anyone have suggestions as to my possibly overly-sensitive bowels? And the nausea?

Thank you for reading!

Welcome ladykatie,

So glad to have someone new join us. It's wonderful to have the support and share our experiences. I had my surgery May 5th and I actually have lazy bowels which makes us have opposite issues. As far as shutting off that valve I am not sure. I have been focused in opening mine (tmi). I am now on duco, Miralax, Metamucil and just finished a prescription strength laxative. Amazingly I am still losing. I have lost 24.2 lbs since the day of my surgery. I am blown away by that amount. The nausea on the other hand I was prescribed the scopolamine patch for behind the ear and the dissolvable Zofran. Usually surgeons will call these prescriptions in without needing to see you. I did notice in the beginning sitting straight up was better when I tried to drink or eat. It helped with nausea/needing to vomit feeling. The Zofran worked pretty quick. I am on the puréed portion of the diet and will go to soft foods in about 8 days. I am 37 years old and live in California. Everybody asks me what do you want to get down to but what I have observed with others having this surgery is there bodies kind of determine that for them if they do all they should. I dunno maybe I'm wrong. I am currently a size 18 bottom and 14/16 top. I really haven't tried to put jeans on yet so I don't know if there looser but I already can see the physical change in myself. Yoga pants are my friend and sun dresses. Hope to learn more about you.

Sincerely,

Angelface811

Lady Kate I was also may 21! I too have diarrhea every day but I am thinking is all the fat leaving my body lol I'm sorry you had such a tough time. Try and hang in there. I would rather have diarrhea than Constipation right now for sure!! I've had that after surgery and it's terrible.. You are not alone and you will soon be so happy again. ????

Today is day 19 post-surgery. This has been much more difficult than I expected, one step up, two steps back. It's a struggle to get enough Fluid in, some days Water upsets my stomach so I use Water enhancers. Constipation has been a big problem but I suppose that's related to my Fluid intake.

I know I shouldn't compare myself to others as far as weight loss but I'm not losing as fast as I thought I would; I suppose I have some unrealistic expectations; I'm down 22 pounds, this week I only lost 2 pounds. I don't know how that's possible taking in fewer than 500 calories a day. I know this is a marathon and not a sprint, I didn't put on all this weight overnight and it's not going to come off overnight but I'm feeling a little discouraged, need some help adjusting my expectations!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
