I'm taking the flinstone complete with Iron chewable, the sublingual B-12, and Calcium +D chewable.

I am also having to take a stool softener due to know Fiber in the diet and the Iron supplement.

I had gotten the Viactiv calcium chews but later read that it is not the best for gastric bypass patients. So I researched and decided on the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews that has the better source of Calcium for us to absorb.

Taste is better on the Viactiv, but need to go with the one that works best I guess.

I don't know anything about liquid Vitamins.

I was told we could not take pills after surgery but the surgeon prescribed two different capsule medications and I am able to take them fine. I also am able to take my Allegra pill fine. I just space them all out throughout the day.

I take Citracal. It is important to take Calcium in the form of calcium citrate and not Calcium Carbonate. These are large pills. In the beginning I had to crush them but after 3 months, I regained my ability to swallow large pills and they are easy to take now. I am suppose to take 6 a day and space these out. Also there is a conflict between Iron supplements and calcium supplements so I have to space the Iron 2 hours from the calcium.

I take 3 Flintstones Complete chewable per day. These contain iron. In the beginning this was the first Vitamins I took in the morning. But I modified this to the end of the day Vitamin because the blood work showed I had low iron. As a result of the blood work, I also am taking an iron supplement each day.

I take 1 D3 (5000 i.u.) per day.

I take 1 B1 (100 mg) per week. Originally I took these once per day but as a result of the blood work, the dosage was reduced.

I take 1 Juvenon (Acetyl L-Carnitine HCL combined with Alpha Lipoic Acid) per day. I have been taking this for the past 10 year to strengthen the mitochondria in my cells. It helps with breathing and also hair loss.

I take 1 Co Q-10 (100 mg) per day. I have been taking this for over a decade and continued after surgery.

I take one injection of B12 per month.

This has been addressed MANY times. If you do a forum search on Vitamins, you will find a host of information

Vitamins can change over time too. Right after surgery I used Bariatric Advantage chocolate chews (expensive, but very good!); Flinstones Complete Chewables; B12 sublingual; and Vitamin D. After my six month blood work, it changed. My body was holding on to too much Iron, which I am told is rare, especially in women. As a result, I take a Flinstones Complete in the morning, and a One A Day Gummy with dinner. gummy vitamins do not contain iron. I now also take my Calcium in Citrical Petites (much more economical, but I miss the chocolate!) I tell you this so you don't over buy. They will check my blood work again at my 12 month visit, and it would not surprise me if they change again.

I hadn't even heard that Flinstones chewables was an option. My doctor told me to take Bariatric Advantage only the first few months after surgery. I will have to research further about it.

NieMarie I am like you and am not sure what to take! But I know my Dr said I should take liquid Vitamins for some things. I am getting nervous that if I don't take the right things afterward then I will get sick. When is your surgery?

The only Vitamin that I had to swallow after surgery was the vitamin D pill and that was never a problem. Every clinic is different. I followed my clinics advice and would encourage you to follow yours. My main point is that it changes with time so don't over buy.

I am surprised so many of you take Flintstones Vitamins. My surgeon says these don't have all the vitamins we need. Just goes to show that surgeons have different opinions. I take 2 chewable bariatric Multivitamins a day. sublingual B12, Iron, and 2 calcium chews which are caramel flavored and delicious. I plan to stick with the Bariatric Advantage until I'm a year out even though they are more expensive. I am 7 months out now. My blood work is always good. I hope all of you are doing well and continue to do so on this exciting journey! God bless!

I suspect that the Vitamin regiment is different depending on the type of surgery performed. One individual on this board had gastric bypass surgery. He was directed to take only one small Multivitamin per day. I thought it was strange, perhaps a little insane. But then I found out that he was from Australia and had an Omega loop gastric bypass also called Mini gastric bypass (MGBP). This is a totally different operation than the Roux-en-Y (RNY) gastric bypass surgery I had in the States.

It sure seems that different surgeons have very different Vitamin requirements. My surgeon told me to avoid any kind of Gummy Vitamin. I take a Centrum Silver multi twice daily, a B12 sublingual and a Bariatric Advantage calcium citrate chew twice daily. My bloodwork last week was great. I seem to be getting just the right amount of everything I need.

I've been reading up on liquid Vitamins and the consensus seems to be that they are absorbed better by the body, but since I seem to be doing well with the chewables, I think I'll save myself the expense of liquid vitamins.

I want to add that my clinic also said no gummy vitamins. They do not contain Iron, and we need iron. My doc said what happened to me is quite rare, especially in women. This is why it is so important to keep going back for follow-up appointments. Just because your blood work is good at 3 months or 6 months, does not mean that it will still be at one year. Just know that what you start with might not be what you are on for life. I had the standard RNY gastric bypass. Every body is different, sometimes adjustments need to be made.

My surgery is June 10th, as long as my insurance approves it! My surgeon scheduled it and is pretty sure that it will be approved. I am just going to do what my Dr says for Vitamins and take it one day at a time. I think I will only buy one type at a time. If what we can eat changes week to week then we will be changing the type of vitamins too. Let me know how your plans for surgery progress! I hope you get approved soon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
