"Thank God for My Sleeve!"

Recommended Posts

I'm so sick of reading that. Thank your surgeon, the surgical staff, the person that came up with the concept of the gastric sleeve, etc.!

<_<

I agree. There are medical/biological reasons beyond our control regarding why most people are unable to lose weight without the medical intervention of WLS, but it's all our own willpower and drive that allows us to make the decision to finally have it done, and it's thanks to our surgeons and ourselves that we're successful. Thanking God absolves you of any stake in your own wellbeing and doesn't give credit where credit is do. (Of course some people say "Thanks God!" rhetorically, but that's clearly different.)

Just like a pro football player thanking god for a touchdown. It's silly and illogical, and if there were such a god, would he have nothing better to do than deliver touchdowns (or Oscars, etc.)?

It's like if someone has a touch of reflux or something and people are like "I'll pray for you" ! Please don't waste your time lol if I cared enough I'd take offence when people say it to me !!!

Free speech and expression is a right we all enjoy. So I'm thinking of responding to some of the overt religious proselyizing around here in signature blocks with this addition to my own signature block:

"I prefer that you not share your religious beliefs with me. Thank you for your consideration."

I saw a bumper sticker that said "don't assume I share your prejudices."

Personally, I thank the scientists and pioneering surgeons who came up with this option. I also thank the surgeons who worked to make this surgery laparoscopic and in the case of my well trained surgeon, utilizing robotic equipment. My recovery was so easy and for that I am thankful....but not to God.

Meh. I'm not religious but I'm not offended by prayers. I appreciate the intention behind the words so I leave it at that.

I probably shouldn't respond to this since I am Christian but I couldn't resist.

Quite a few surgeons really believe they are "god" so it could still be accurate even if you don't believe in God.

I'm thankful for God for keeping me safe and never leaving my side. I'm also thankful for my surgeon and hospital staff. To me - saying thanks does not need to be mutually exclusive.

Good for you! You probably didn't notice you were posting in the athiest/agnostic forum. :D

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
