I'm 3 weeks post op today and I only weigh myself weekly, every Monday. Last week the scale read 299.8 and this week it reads 300.2! My doctor says she expects me to lose 1-2 pounds a week! WTH! I feel like this whole surgery is BS and quite frankly I'm pissed off and I want my stomach back! I hardly eat anything and I work out for at least 45 minutes 3-5 days a week!! That's another thing, I keep reading people say "oh my goodness I can only eat a 1/2 a cup of this or 1 cup of that", I can eat a whole serving of cream of wheat which is 3 TBS and 1 1/4 cups no fat milk! plus I add another 1/4 to thin it out more! I can also eat a whole can of Soup with a can of broth mixed in with it! I'm starting to think my doctor either left my stomach too big or didn't take any of it out to begin with!

I get 1000-1200 calories a day which is a huge cut from my 3000+ calories before surgery. I don't understand why I'm not losing but gaining! I go back to my doctor on the 15th of May and if I haven't lost at least 4 pounds and she gives me shit, I swear I'm going to flip out! I'm doing everything I am suppose to and NOTHING after only 3 weeks!? This is total crap! :(

If you can offer any words of wisdom, please do. Sorry for the rant but I am very discouraged and pissed off!

Thank you,

Purple

P.S.

I should also mention I am in the puree stage of my diet and rarely eat anything pureed. I'm still mostly liquids.< /strong>

It's very frustrating, indeed! We all have days when we want to throw the scale out the window. As a matter of fact, that's probably really good advice. Don't go by the numbers all the time.

Take a deep breath and repeat after me: The weight will come off. I just need to ride this through.

As for the capacity of what you are eating, I too found I could handle more during the full liquids. But I think you'll find that once you start incorporating clean pureed Proteins (e.g., soft scrambled eggs, flaky fish, tuna fish, refried Beans with a little cheese), you be surprised at how fast your tummy will fill up. The same will happen again when you switch to solid foods.

Remember to chew. And log everything. Check with your surgeon that 1000-1200 is where you need to be. Hang tough, cookie, you'll be fine!

Be well…

I'm totally on the same boat as you- I'm 3 weeks out and I know I could probably eat a full serving of cream of wheat or Soup, etc. However, I stick to the portion the doctor told me to stick to. I'm eating no more than 1/4 cup - 1/2 cup purees and no, I don't feel full like I did before, but I don't feel hungry either. Yes, it is so frustrating sometimes!

A few things to consider:

1. Are you getting all your water/ fluids in? I have noticed that when I don't, I don't lose weight.

2. Most people at this point are at 600-800 calories a day. Check in with your doctor because I know plans vary, but this seems to be the norm.

3. When you say you "can eat a whole serving" - have you actually been honest with yourself about your hunger level? Are you feeling hunger at all yet? Or is it just head hunger? I'm a food addict myself, so I know how difficult that is.

4. You should check out Less of Sarah on youtube because she has lots of great advice- also she started out at 420ish and is now at around 220ish!

Don't beat yourself up ! We can do this ! I also hit my plateau at 3 weeks but I was told I would it's our body catching up and possibly adding muscle weight. I added more Fiber and less carbs and today I lost 1 pound . I did notice that even though the scales wasn't dropping my belly seemed smaller.

I agree. Get your protien in. For my diet, cream of wheat was definitelty not on the plan at 3 weeks. Total Clear Liquids for first 4 weeks, plus my protien shakes. I am almost 4 mo. since surgery and am down 65 lbs. I've had platues here and there but usually the follow week it then drops. Kind of been my pattern. Definitely ask your Dr. about the cream of wheat. Too many carbs... not enough protien. You will get there. You just need some tweeking. Absolutely the best decision I have made!

Just because you can eat a whole serving of cream of wheat doesn't mean you should eat a whole serving. You may not be able to feel your fullness yet because you are not totally healed and the nerves in your stomach are still healing. Follow your guidelines and measure your food according to your plan. I still do not eat 1000 calories a day at almost 9 months out. Once you move onto solid Proteins you will feel full so much quicker and eat less.

You have reached the infamous 3 week stall....this too shall pass, I promise you.

~sigh~ I just feel like if I cant even lose weight with 80-85% of my stomach cut out, how huge of a failure I will be. I've been overweight since I was about 8 years old and have never seen myself "thin". I want to see what I look like thin at least once before I die. When I started this whole process with my doctor I weighed 332, then 330 at my post op appt. now I'm at 300 lbs. I guess 30 pounds over the last 5 weeks is pretty good. <_<

Thanks for all the advice and support. I sure need it. :)

you may be in starvation mode. which means your body is going to hold on to every ounce. i would switch to pureed Protein (skip the nutrient empty cream of wheat) and get in as much Protein and Water as possible. aim for 80 grams and 80 ounces. make sure you're getting in some good fat... avocado, coconut oil or egg yolk. fat and protein are two signals to your body that you arent starving, so make sure you getting it in! you might want to cut back your exercising (you are walking?) to 30 mins and see if you have better results. or change up what you are doing. try something different. i wouldnt do both at the same time. i would play with both of these factors one at a time and see if either one changes anything for you. this is your body, your life and you need to be proactive in figuring out what works for you personally. dont waste your energy getting angry, use your energy to figure out how to be successful. no one else is gonna make this work for you, its up to you.

I'm allowed cream of wheat and oatmeal at three weeks. Every doctor is different, so she is just going by the plan her doctor gave her.

Purple - Try mixing vanilla Protein powder in with your cream of wheat. You will fill up faster with less food! I mix vanilla Protein Powder with vanilla Greek yogurt and only two ounces fills me up. However, if I have creamy chicken Soup, I can eat 4-6 ounces. But I started mixing it with unflavored Protein Powder and only eat half that and don't get hungry nearly as fast.

I'm only three weeks out and yes, I get hungry. Not just mind hungry. Real hunger. I can tell the difference. Everyone's body and journey are different.

Me too I'm in the same situation. I lost 14 lbs the first week and didn't lose a pound in 10 days! I eat between 400-550 calories a day. I struggle with Protein some days I get 50grams other day max of 35. When I eat it's between 1 table spoon and 1/4 of a cup. When I feel like snacking I have a 15 calorie sugar free Popsicle I'm so frustrated I thought I would be losing at least 3 lbs a week due to the fact I'm not eating as much as I used to. I wanna be patient but I'm very scared that this won't work for me, sometimes I just want to cry. :(

I am also in the same boat. Three weeks out tomorrow and have not lost even a pound in the past week. I did lose 33lbs in the first two weeks which I know is a lot. I just fear not losing anything for a week. I am eating almost only Protein and averaging 500-600 calories max a day. I wonder was that it? Only 33lbs and I am done? The scale has got to move soon. I am getting super discouraged.

I only weigh once a week. I'm not obsessed with the scale. If I weighed everyday I would go nuts! I am in the process of moving and have packed my scale and won't be weighed until i go see my doctor again May 15th. I'm praying by them I have lost at least 5 pounds!

That's the only time I weight myself now, is when I go to the doctors........ This weight journey is crazy..... There will be weeks where you don't lose any weight and then there will be weeks where you lose a lot....... There's no telling.... Just keep doing what you feel is best and the weight will come off......... I just hit 5 months and I thought I was a slow loser then all of a sudden things changed..... I'm down 83lbs since my surgery........

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
