Doxycycline, liver, and RNY

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I have been stalking these forums for months and now I am so happy to be a part of it! I'm having RNY gastric bypass on May 21st, and I have been taking doxycycline for about 1 1/2 months for acne, and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was not good to take it before surgery, or if it shouldn't affect my surgery. I had read somewhere that doxycycline can increase liver enzymes? I am not sure how valid that statement is but it has caught my attention knowing that we want to shrink our liver as much as possible before surgery. Do you guys have any personal experiences with doxycycline before surgery?

You might have to stop taking it two weeks before your surgery. I would ask your doctor. You probably have a bunch of pre-op classes to go to so that is another great place to ask questions about medication. I have Blue Cross as my insurance & they have a nurse that is following me through the whole thing. She calls to see how I am doing & I have her number in case I have questions. Check with your insurance & see if you have something similar available to you. My surgery is 5/1 & I am so ready & prepared. I just can't wait to get started. Good luck to you!

I found out from my doctor that I can take it up to one day before surgery :-) it must not really affect anything essential during surgery

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
