Keeping up my fluids and protein.

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone, I recently had gastric bypass surgery (I'm going on my third week) and I'm having a really hard time drinking 2 liters of Water and getting in my 60 grams of Protein. I have a 7 month old baby and trying to take care of him I kind of forget about myself. Does anyone have any suggestions? Before surgery I loved drinking water...still do but the fact the I can't drink like I use to is making it harder. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi NMFS ~

I am 4 weeks post-op and in the same boat. I used to drink a ton of Water every day. I've been struggling with Water consumption because any liquid over room temp causes pain in my pouch. It's getting better each day, but still happens to a mild degree. I have started sipping more Decaf hot tea and decaf coffee to get my liquids in. Plus, if you are drinking Protein drinks, sipping broth or liquid Soups, those all count toward your liquid intake.

Good luck; I know it can be a struggle. :)

Have you tried mixing Protein powders with your fluids to meet both requirements at one time? I was using Unjury Protein Powder and mixing it with crystal light (strawberry protein with lemonade, or chicken Soup flavor with warm water). That really helped me meet both the Fluid and protein gtargets early on. There are many brands out there, just find one you like.

Also, early on I would set the timer on my phone to go off every 10-15 minutes to remind me to take a sip. Eventually it will become routine and you'll be able to take bigger sips but it helped me to keep sipping with the timer reminding me in the beginning.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
