Hair loss, evidence with picture and me bitching...

Recommended Posts

I knew this was inevitable... The infamous Hair loss. I just thought I would document this with a lovely picture to show those who haven't hit the 3-4 month mark yet what to expect (more than likely). Now, I have somewhat thick hair, but it is quite disturbing how much comes out each time I brush and/or wash it! Ugh! Not to mention, all day long, I'm constantly picking hair off of my clothes. So annoying. I just need to walk around with a lint roller attached to my hip! Yesterday, while I was washing my hair, my fingers were COVERED with hair coming out. Then, this picture is what come out of my perfectly clean brush as I was blow drying it. Yikes! Okay, my rant is over.

Hey there! I was sleeved almost 4 months ago. :) From everything I've read, it doesn't matter what the procedure was but more of a side effect after having gone through anesthesia. I've been taking my Biotin like a good girl and ... Well... No help! Ha! Luckily, I have a good amount of hair so I should be fine, it's just more annoying than anything!

Same here girl! It's so scary having it fall out in clumps in the shower and brush! Even if we knew to expect it! I've decided to save mine and spread it on my Hostas as the deer ate every bite last year and when I read what to do it said human hair and I was like "ok wtf do I do pull my hair out!?" Now I don't have to :( Silver linings and all that :P

@CrissyRing77 actually that's an excellent point...if you're a gardener, the hair will help your roses (the Protein breaks down in the soil) to bloom better...so yeah, take that clump of hair and PLANT IT!!!! Excellent recycling tip!

I am jinxing myself by saying this, but so far, I don't notice much change. I have fine hair, and it tends to fall out pretty readily anyway. It also breaks off pretty readily too. I have taken to washing it every other day and conditioning it well, as I chose this inopportune time to try to grow it out. Maybe washing it less frequently helps?

I know it's coming my way. I am at 3 1/2 months out from the sleeve and getting anxious about the impending hair loss. Thanks for you tip to place the hair in the garden somewhere. I will try it. Talking about gardens and such....there are tulips and hyacinths pushing their way up in the flower beds. Seeing the flowers cheered me up this morning.

I am with you all... I love my flowers, and now that I have lost weight, I am more mobile and can dig in the soil again :) ...BIG NSV... I got my first bloom on my Joseph Coat rose yesterday...so pretty... the tulips were planted late, but they are still popping, so far... can't wait for everything to start blooming as this is a NEW garden in our new house... the previous owners didn't have one bush/shrub/plant in the yard :( ... not so anymore :) :) :)

Haha, I don't think I can wash my hair any less… I typically go about 4 days without washing my hair because it takes that long for it to get remotely greasy. Yes, I bathe, just in the tub. My husband makes fun of me on the days I wash my hair and he always says, "Oh, what's the special occasion?! Is today a holiday that I forgot about?" Smart ass… ha!

I also have very fine thin hair and always have a brushfull anyway. I have not had a haircut in 7 months. I trim my bangs and twist my hair up. It is shoulder length. When I heard about Hair loss I figured I just would see what happens. I have about six wigs from halloween days if there is a big problem, and the birds need the leftover hair for their nests everyone.

Haha well then it's a double whammy bc I had read the human hair will keep the deer away from eating your plants bc they smell it! So perfect we can all have hairy plants ;) keeping the hair close to home at least :) I do miss my thick hair I have at least lost 60% but last year I had lost 20lbs pretty quickly and I lost some hair for 6 mos dispute gaining it back, it did stop and started to regrow but now with surgery I've just lost a ton more! I go back and forth between keeping it this length (just past shoulders) or getting a stacked bob, at least with it longer I can out it up! What is everyone's plan if it gets super super thin?

keep breathing and know that it will likely grow back...I truly am at peace with losing my hair if I look smokin'!! i'll just cut it VERY short and spike it a bit and hope that I look so healthy and thin that nobody bothers looking at my hair! lol...

Ya'll are hysterical. I have so many mental images in my head with hair munching deer and gardens with fluffy tufts.

Seriously? As long as it doesn't keep falling out, I think I can live with some 'thinning' while I'm thinning. My green thumb husband will be thrilled.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
