How much did you lose in the first few months?

Recommended Posts

Having lapband later this month, and I don't know anyone whose had the surgery.

My surgeon is great, but is reluctant to give me any real indication of how quickly patients typically lose weight. He's given me a caloric "formula" for weight loss which makes sense, but I'd like to know from other people who have been banded: how much did you lose in the first month? How long before the weight loss slowed down, and how much, on average, are you losing per month now?

For what it's worth, I'm female, late twenties. BMI of 41.

My weight loss has been very slow. Ony about 2-4 lbs a month which is so slow. I keep telling myself that the slower the better.

I got the lap band surgery on the march 31 so far lost 16ibs

you lose more the first 3 week because you are on the liquid diet after that it slows down because he start eating mushy food and solid food so it starts to vary

so I think you start loosing 2 to 4 ibs a week

I lost a bunch (16lbs) in the 2 week pre-op all liquid diet. Now I have slowed to 3 lbs a week eating mushies and a bit of solid food. That's still faster than any other diet I have been on. And it's consistent and sustainable. Also I don't feel like I am on a diet.

A few things I have learned:

Protein first (Find a shake you like and avoid sugar)

Exercise

Don't compare yourself to anyone else

That last one is why your surgeon is not telling you specifics on weight loss. Everyone loses differently. Be compliant with your surgeon and nutritionist plans, and you will succeed!

Good luck!

It's so individual based on your doctors pre-op recommendations.

After that its all about your metabolism, exercise, how you eat….etc, etc, etc, etc.

Basically, so many factors…..

In my opinion….try not to compare yourself and don't look at anyone else as a gage for what you could possibly lose. it could only set yourself up to be disappointed if you don't lose what you "think you should" be losing!

You and I have a very similar starting weight….but that is the only comparison you can make….

my success may be very different than yours….just be yourself… take one day at a time and do the best you can do for YOU!

Wishing you lots of luck and success!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
