Band Friendly travel foods

Recommended Posts

I have a 10 hour road trip coming up and I'm worried about what I will eat while in the car. I dont eat at fast food places because there is nothing there I can really eat without PB'ing or vomiting.

What kind of foods/munchies would you suggest to take in the car.

(I just got home from an 8 hour road trip and have to leave again in a few days for a 10 hour trip, while on the 8 hour trip, I did not eat the whole way there or back because my family wanted fast food, and there was nothing that I knew I could eat.) I cannot eat chicken, grapes, or any bread products. I know I can eat string cheese, but need more than that for 10 hours....HELP :)

Have you tried Quest bars? They have high Protein content and low net carbs. They have very few ingredients and are very tasty!

I'd pack a little ice chest and pack yogurt, tuna or chicken salad, cheese. I'd maybe throw a couple of Protein Bars in my purse too.

fruit, Protein bars, nuts, cheese, individual packs of Peanut Butter, crackers. This is my typical long-haul flight food, since I never trust I'll find anything band-friendly in an airport or on an airplane. I'm sure it will work for a long car trip, too.

Beef Jerky works for me (Oberto makes some without MSG). Just make sure you take small bites as that's difficult to chew really well sometimes. Dried fruits (I love Apricots). Nuts.

Cooler with yogurt (but don't over pack that). Protein shakes.

Have you looked on the forum for fast food ideas and it still doesn't work or haven't tried them yet?

Chick-fil-a - I get the kids 4 count grilled nugget combo (with fruit). Sometimes I can have it plain, sometimes I need BBQ to get it down.

Wendy's - many people like the chili.

Panera bread (sit down fast food) - I like the turkey chili or the black bean Soup

Chipotle - I get a single taco, chicken, mild salsa, black Beans, sour cream, cheese... Then I skip the shell. It's only $2.47.

I just took a road trip and found the best thing for me was lunch meat.

I love almonds and keep the 100 cal packs in my glove compartment. And I use the 100 cal Greek yogurts as well, if you have a little cooler in the car. Honestly I would just take whatever you usually eat -- some chili or beef stew? If the family has to have junk food (ew, gross) you could use that time to take laps around the parking lot and visit the rest room. Your joints will thank you!

@@bluetigereyes - I suggest to try different nuts before the trip. Almonds (at least pre-band) gives me intestinal discomfort and gas. I do my best to limit them. If you're stuck in a car ride, that might not be the time to figure that out ;)

I've heard my brother in law mention the same thing so it might be somewhat common.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
