Recommended Posts

hi guys! just a quick update: my sleeve & gallbladder surgery went super well! under 2 hours and except for an initial bout of nausea, things have been going smoothly. not a ton of pain, some gas, of course, but tolerable so far. thanks for all the well wishes and PMs! hope you are all doing well, also! xo

Just touching base after a very difficult past two weeks .

Surgery date: June 11th 2014 with Dr. Higa at Fresno Heart and Surgical hospital.

Leak found June 14th, 2014.

I'm 38 no major health issues except obesity.

For those of you who have suffered a leak, how did you get through it? How long did you feel terrible and how long until leak was healed. Any advice or encouragement welcome.

To everyone considering surgery, remember there are risks and use surgery as your last

option to weight loss.

Well, I am two days post op. I have no pain in my incision but I have never been so nauseous. I am able to walk and get fluids down. I should be going home today. I am a little afraid because I have so many stairs at home just to go to the bathroom. How are my other June 24th s leevers doing?

I also have stairs. Just take it one at a time and as each day passes it gets easier. My husband went up and down with mr the first few times to be safe.

I'm two days post op. And the first day after surgery I felt like I could take on the world. Guess the button at hospital was keeping down the pain. When I got home was in a lot if pain cause of gas and air bubbles. Learned to take slow deep breathes and sip on my Clear Liquids, on about two ounces right now. But still taking the prescription every 6 hours. Am doing breathing exercise after every sip of liquids. Each day I hope is better.

I promise you it will get better each day. Just last week I was miserable and today feel great. Tired of liquid foods but that will pass soon enough. Hang in there. ;)

It does get better every day. I am getting bored of liquids as well. It's kinda TMI but I still have diarrhea which I am hoping resolves when I move to soft food next Wed.

I have had diarrhea for several days. I decided to stop drinking milk/ products and switch to soy milk (some research shows you can develop a temp lactose intolerance after surgery). I also bought probiotic supplement. I also started Biotin for thinning hair.

Im worried that some of you are rushing to pureed too soon. Any issues? I am sticking to this 14 day liquid even though it sucks. Want to heal ok.

Oh my Gosh a leak sounds so scary. What symptoms did you have that led you to realize you had a leak?

Great to hear all us 'June Sleevers' are doing well for the most part :-)

I tried my first pureed food (buffalo chicken) 6 days post surgery and it went well, except I ate a bit too much (only 1/4 cup) so i'll adjust my intake accordingly. Told my doc at my 8 day post -op appt that I had pureed foods and he said to try something new everyday as tolerated. I'm not to the point (10 days post op) that I can have small bites of chicken and chew the hell out of them with no issues.

Rule of thumb - progress as tolerated.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
