Hello MS Eddie

Good question. I have noticed this past few days since I am on basically full liquids for 4-6 weeks out post surgery (wk 5-6 I get to introduce pureed food in one ounce increments per meal) that since I have been using the magic bullet to make my shakes for dinner only it satisfies me for the rest of the evening which is my weakest moment of the day.

I was able to get a regular Protein shake/drink (non bulletiezeed) down today with some broth/soup. Never fully recovered from this am. huh - tommorrow is another day!

It is a little blender. There was a very bad infomercial that was on TV all the time about 2 years ago. You can buy them in the stores for about $60.00. I got one as a gift and at first I thought it was too small but since the lapband I use it all of the time.

I purchased my Magic Bullet on Ebay ... $42 included shipping! I don't know how I would have gotten this far without it.....I am on solids and still get it out all the time, mostly for yummie shakes!

Hello SElaine, Cindy and others. I am home and recovering, my surgery was on Thursday, June 7. I have been reading all your posts since then, and so much to follow! You guys are a great group.

I wish I read more experiencing less GAS Pain, It is a kicker! My surgery all went well overall, I stayed over night and went home on Friday. I have had port/ incision pain and gas. I have been trying to get around, walked yesterday and did some chores today, taking the stairs more. I need to walk later. My biggest challenge is the gas pain and the " what to eat" or not! I have been good with the fluids, but for those of you who have to stay on liquids for 4-6 weeks, I would be struggling. I wish you all the best. My post op appt is Wednesday and I think I will be on mushies then.

I am not sure who posted about the support group and getting discouraged with the limited weight loss. I think when we look at the total we wish it would be more, but they are probably the average. I knew when I decided to be banded, that the weight loss would be slower, but I also think it depends on each one of us. Exercise, food choices, age, etc. Just like it was prior to banding. I to hope it comes off faster than that too, however, a loss of 45-60 lbs is better than I did last year! I am sure I will get discouraged too. That is what makes this sight good.

Hello fellow bandsters....

OK - Today I woke up and made a Protein shake. for Breakfast (with the magic bullet) I put the right amount of ingredients in, blended it up, I was only able to get half of it down which means I didn't get all the calories I needed and Protein in. I am 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery so I am not sure if I am still slightly swollen or not, but I WAS SOOOOO FULL. I only ate half of it. 2 hours later I managed to get a cup of Soup down and am still stuffed.

I don't think I have hit bandster hell yet, Maybe I just can't do shakes in the morning but they go down just fine for dinner.

Will this fillness like this last?

I am still stuffed and afraid that I won't get in the nutrition I need today. I suppose I can make up for it tomorrow, but I always try to get in at least 800 calories..

Port soreness still tender by the suture but getting better every day...

Hi there -

liquid liquid and more liquid... everything I am is about drinking (unless I use the magic bullet to turn it into a shake consistency) is exactly that. I can get a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of something down at a time and do feel restriction.

i.e. - Water and crystal light go right through the band, i feel no full sensation from that. just keeping myself hydrated is what that is for.

second goal - too keep my caloric intake around 800 calories. (when I consume less my body goes into starvation mode and I don't loose weight. Remember - the first 6 weeks is for healing as well as not stretch the banded stomach pouch... (actually some of the recipe's from the dr.s office is for more than 1 cup by the time you add everything in and it is too much for me personally)

toda's food intake:

Breakfast - 1 chocolate Protein shake = 3 oz unsweetened soy milk, 2-3 oz Water and the Protein powder. They want us to keep the shakes thick to help with the absorbtion of Protein. I know my dr said 4 oz as well but it is too thick for me to get down but this has worked for me for weeks...

SF/FF Jello with 1 tsp. SF cool whip = 50 cal 1/2 g. of fat

SF/FF popsicle

I am about to have some Soup for now about 1/2 - 3/4 cup, then will have another Protein Shake around 6-7 pm for dinner with my mixer with fruit and sf white chocolate Syrup included as well. This keeps me full for the rest of the night, the soy milk is wonderful mixed in to the Protein Shakes.

This satisfies all my hunger cravings for the day.

It is working for me ( I was banded on the same day) I am on a 4 week liquid diet. I am not sure if this answer your question, about a 1/2 cup vs 1 cup. Did you get instructions from your dr?

I have my Protein in the morning with hot Water. I have chocolate mocha that taste like a hot chocolate in the morning. Love it! The rest of the day I blend my vanilla with fresh fruit and 4 icecubes and a little water. Makes a great shake! Ive been pureeing everything in site and boy does it taste good.

Wenjea - what are you pureeing? I have 1 1/2 weeks or less to my puree stage. 1 oz per meal right? Are you just doing vegetables????

Went to the gym this morning and weighed before I worked out...I'm down two more pounds! WOO HOO! I do think I need a fill before my appt on 7/3 though. The last couple of days I've been able to eat way too much, 6-8 oz, and sometimes I'm still hungry afterward...

A little off the previous subject, but ... has anyone else noticed a change in sex drive since the surgery?

I feel horrible for my husband, but I have no interest in sex. I'm not sure why, but I have noticed the drop in interest has been since the surgery. I rarely had this problem in the past, but I seem even more self-conscious than I did before. Anyone else?? or is it just me?

I am with you! I dont get it at all either. I have never had this problem!! I dont know if its that I am self concious or really just not in the mood. It sucks!

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
