Do i have a stricture?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! I had Gastric bypass march 3 and have lost a total of 21lbs do far. I'm on stage 3 soft/puréed with shakes.

Can you explain to me what I stricture is? I've seen it mentioned here and there and I've started having a problem.

As I said before I'm on puréed foods now. I've been tolerating things fine until yesterday when I tried tuna. Puréed it and are about 1/4 cup. After I felt as if a rock was stuck. So I figured it was having a hat time digesting. I walked around, drank Water etc. now even when I drink Water I can feel it at a certain point pass something and it kinda hurts/ is uncomfortable. Did I just push it to far or what is the deal?

I was feeling so much better and now I feel like crap! My muscles hurt, I'm dehydrated (cause it hurts to swallow) and I just want to cry.

Help friends!

Chelsea

It is best to check this out with your team first of all! Next I cannot eat tuna either...Why I don't know...Some foods will not be tolerated any longer by your new sleeve.

Dehydration is something you can fix right away. G2 Gatorade...1/2 and 1/2 a bottle and you will feel better in minutes. It keeps you hydrated by working with your electrolytes

stricture

[strik′chər]
Etymology: L, stringere, to tighten
an abnormal temporary or permanent narrowing of the lumen of a hollow organ, such as the esophagus, pylorus of the stomach, ureter, or urethra. It is caused by inflammation, external pressure, or scarring. Treatment varies depending on the cause.

I doubt it's anything to worry about. Search trouble eating meats and you will see its a common complaint. Eating too fast, too much air, or too big of bites or not enough moisture. Day to day I can't whether I can tolerate meat. Was happy that I could eat canned chicken today in an Asian salad and my surgery was day after Christmas.

If your opening is too small, the Dr can fix it fairly easy. I would check with him because you don't want to get dehydrated. When I eat tuna, I mix it with cottage cheese. But you have to remember to take small bites and eat slow. I can't have Water 30 min before and after meals.

I had my surgery 12/31/13 and last month had tightness and inability to keep most solids down comfortably. I went in for the procedure, actually it was quite easy, and I feel much better. Recommend it!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
