Remedy for constipation?

Recommended Posts

I all. I'm having major difficulties having a BM. I can't take MOM (violently ill) I do take colase 3 times a day. When I don't "go" for two + days, I get backed up and it causes a lot of pain on my left side. I spoke to my surgeon's PA and she says my symptoms are Constipation and I have an appt next Tuesday. I just don't know what to do until then.

I'm on soft foods. I get in about 5-6 cups of Water plus 2 cups Protein Shake (premier). I was putting banana in my shake but stopped Monday. All in all, the foods I eat (not in one day) are tuna, hard boiled egg white, chicken, mashed potato or sweet potato, canned green Beans, SF Jello, SF Popsicles, NF vanilla Greek yogurt, refried beans (stopped Monday).

Any ideas of a soft food that will help me go?

I talked to my doc about this today. I've always tended to be constipated so I asked if it was okay to use Miralax indefinately. She told me to take 4 stool softeners every night and use Miralax as needed (get the generic at Walmart - so much cheaper and it's the same thing). Hope this helps you.

I had bypass and also am on narcotics for back issues so I've had ALOT of Constipation problems! I take a stool softener twice a day and a double dose of miralax (generic)every other day. I sometimes even have to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate to get going. I worked as a cna for years and used to laugh about people obsessing about their bowels and now I'm right there with them!! ;)

Try a laxative suppository. When I have got Constipation really bad, that did the trick in about 20 minutes. Then once you get that taken care of, take a probiotic and stool softener daily to keep everything moving. The Walmart generic stool softener works great, and I like the Bariatric Advantage probiotic.

We all know that pain and hope you get it resolved soon.

I have very bad trouble too since surgery. The only positive side to dumping is a BM

I have issues as well. I take Miralax 2 or 3 times a week, and I keep suppositories in the medicine cabinet as a back up.

I asked the dr about this. She said Constipation is one sign that you may not be getting enough liquids. Even if you meet your 64 ounces, if you have an ongoing issue with constipation try increasing your liquids.

Thanks everyone

My PA suggested some of the same...

FiberSmart clear Fiber 3x a day with glass of h2o

Colase 300 mg each night (I got rite aid generic)

Miralax only if I skip 3 days

Some prescription I pick up Friday that's only for emergency if I skip 6 days- it's strong and will also cause dehydration (so I'm hoping I won't need it)

At least 64 ounces of liquid (which I was already doing)

Increased walking, (which I've only been allowed to start the treadmill this past monday.)

So...I took my first FiberSmart/h2o and 300 mg of colase. I sure hope I can go tonight or in the am!

The joys of bypass :)

Maybe when I go, I'll lose a pound or two :)

The answer is Magnesium Citrate. I bought 250 mg Gels at Walmart. Have been taking 500 mg: 1 in the morning, 1 before bed and I have had soft bowel movements daily since then and a higher output in feces quantity. Many Americans are deficient in Mg. Physicians will not test for it (blood test) unless you ask.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
