I'm in my feelings because they told me to stay away from grits and it's the one thing I've been wanting to eat.

Okay girls, I had my surgery on 4-16 and including preop I was down 37 pounds... This morning I weighed and had gained TWO whole pounds?!?!? How do I gain two pounds? I went to the soft food portion of my diet this week could this have something to do with it?

I'm sorry Gixxergirl!!! I know how you feel!!! I was allowed to have eggs yesterday!! I was so excited but when I ate them it didn't taste good... I only had a very small amount... I was depressed again but today is a new day and I'm gonna try it again. Not eggs but tuna today!!!! Whoop whoop!

I did eat 2 Peanut Butter crackers yesterday and they were yummy!!!!

Good morning everyone. One week post op (surgery was 4/28) and today is the first day I can actually say I feel good. In fact, physically, I feel better than good. Had my post op visit today and I'm down 18# since the middle of my two week post op diet. I was coming down with a cold day if surgery etc and didn't get weighed before or after. They removed my jp drainage tube which I'm so grateful.

Today my surgeon told me don't obsess so much over being exact with eating etc. Be conscious and make good choices but don't obsess (which I'm known for doing). He said I can gradually try soft foods and for me to listen to my body and if my body rejects things then purée and try to introduce something else in a few days.

@@WickedBeauty I am right there with you...woke up feeling better than I have in days. Glad you are doing well.

Just saw my surgeon and had my drain removed and was so glad to say goodbye to my little friend. I am officially down 17 lbs since I left the hospital and 2 lbs away from the completion of my pre-op diet. All I can say is that I am so glad I had this procedure done.

I just got back from my post op visit. I am down 26lbs and 13 days post op. I was cleared to go ahead and start pureed foods:):) he even said I could have some soft foods (as I can handle it) just to be very careful. He said I was doing well with healing, eating, and weight loss and wants to see me again in 3 weeks!!!! I'm so excited. I am savoring a yoplait Greek yogurt (banana cream) 80 cal/12g of Protein for the whole container, which I probably won't eat all of it but it's heaven!!

Hi everyone well I am 15 days post op on stage 3 diet pureed foods which my nut has me eating ricotta cheese, cottage cheese, chobani plain yogurt and isopure... I am down exactly 30 lbs today I started at 269 I'm at 239 today but I am really discouraged I miss eating dinners with my family and not feeling like I need to avoid things. I have absolutely no hunger at all but I'm pushing myself to get 70 Protein I'm lucky if I get 50 now. I'm 24 and I just want to cry because I knew this was hard but I never expected it to be this emotionally difficult. I feel like I spent my life eating when I wasn't hungry which is why I had to have this surgery but now I'm not hungry and don't want food and I have to push this food down. I never really ate dairy because it made me sick now everything is dairy and I'm struggling. Please help I don't know what to do..

Welcome!!! Congrats on your loss first of all, sounds like you are doing AMAZING!!

I'm not a big fan of milk so I had a hard time with my protein in the liquid phases. I substituted with almond milk which is more expensive, but it lasts longer, has less fat and a lot more Calcium.

I haven't started my pureed diet yet, I will be able to tomorrow if my doctor clears me at my post op visit. I am not a fan of cottage cheese or ricotta (unless I'm making lasagna...lol) so my Nut told me to eat low fat Greek yogurt, pudding, grits, cream of wheat, scrambled eggs (or substitute), refried Beans, applesauce (which I don't eat but when I was at the grocery store I found they have several flavors, so I got strawberry), pureed veggie Soup, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes. Ask your NUT and try something like that.

I know what you mean about being able to "eat normal". I have been depressed as well because I am pretty social and go to dinner with friends often which I haven't much later because of my diet. Also I have to cook my daughter dinner every night and I can't eat it so she has started not eating because I'm not eating the same things with her. There is some really good support on this thread, stick around we are all here for each other :):)

I had the same issue about not wanting to eat with my 5 year old twins. They do share all my Protein Shakes and puddings so now we are all on the same diet by their choice

I am 8 days out and it was a struggle at first but now im getting much better at it. I determined that if I used 3 scoups of powder in 16 oz of milk once that was finished I would have gotten in 90 grams of protein for the day. Thats done at nighr beforw bed so I can start on it first thing in the am. I keep a water bottle that totals 50 oz of water ans still make sure I have 1 G2 during the day. It's work but its possible. Hope I gave you some helpful ideas on how to push it

I'm dehydrated. Debating going in for IV fluids. I don't understand how it's possible if I can't drink 30 minutes before and 30-60 minutes after I eat.

Sorry to hear that are you having any painful symptoms or do you think its possible to just try to increase fluids and it will be corrected. I wouldnt wait long befoee deciding to go back or you may end up back in the hospital

Sipping Water is still a chore. Find it difficult to get all my water. it so its I don't know if I'm still supposed to just chug to get the water or what to get all the water that I'm supposed to have.

Getting my fluids and Protein is extremely difficult, but I'm trying. Forcing myself to sip even when I don't want to.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
