Heartburn - Does it get better?

Recommended Posts

I'm nine days post op and I've started having heartburn and acid reflux. Does it calm down as the tummy heals? Please tell me this isn't a forever thing...??? This sucks!

Unfortunately no! I'm 8 months out and still take my prescribed antacid daily! If I don't it's awful!

you need to be on an acid blocker. I'll be 5 years out soon and it's hell if I don't take mine.

I'm 12 weeks out and only have to take my antacid every few days or so. It depends a lot on what I eat.

I'm two weeks post op, and the last week my heartburn/acid reflux has been terrible. It's so bad this evening that I actually threw up, in addition to the normal nausea.

My surgeon prescribed Prilosec, which I haven't been taking this last week, but when I was it helped immensely. For me, the heartburn is only bad at night.

Nope, it doesn't get better. Recommend that you talk to your doctor about getting prescribing an acid blocker.

Crap. I been under the delusion that its bacterially caused and will get better after I consistently take my prilosec long enough to get rid of the bacteria. I don't wanna take it forever.

My doctor gave me a prescription for prilosec before surgery. Have to stay on it 6 months and then re-evaluate to see if there s a need longer. I would get a frothing reflux of sorts at night sometimes. On that note (4 months out).. I really didn't get classic heartburn like I did prior to surgery unless I forgot to take my medicine. Last month I started getting shoulder pain and arm pain like I previously would before surgery even with medicine. I am gonna talk to my surgeon about this if it continues.

Wow...I guess I'm one of the lucky ones...I get heartburn on rare occasions, probably from what or how I ate...but again, we are all different on our reactions to things :)

  • Did any of you have heartburn before surgery? I read where the sleeve can cause heartburn for some people. I sincerely your heartburn gets better.

I'm 3 days out of surgery and started on Protonix for 90 days.

So I'm not sure what is heartburn, gas, pain etc. In the healing phase.

I had severe heartburn/acid reflux prior to surgery. When they did my surgery they also repaired my hiatal hernia, which is a regular procedure they do during all their surgery's, since they are right there and simple to repair. Since the surgery (7 weeks) I have had absolutely no heartburn.

But if you are having heartburn I would recommend getting to a doctor quickly and get a prescription. Too much acid production can cause alot of problems with the healing process.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
