Hi Everyone!

My name is Kate and I'm excited to find these forums! I met with my surgeon in January and have been approved by my insurance pending jumping through all the hoops they want me to do, which I have been steadily ticking off from the list. So far have had my blood work and endoscopy, have my psych eval next week.

I will be having a sleeve. Initially I thought the band would be a good option, but as I attended a seminar and listened to the options, I thought maybe I should have the full bypass. In consulting with the doctor, given that I am pretty healthy, we finally settled on a sleeve!

I'm excited but nervous. I haven't really told anyone. Most people I know are opposed to surgical weight loss and have very strong opinions about it. I feel like this is something I'm doing for me, a decision I've made for myself, and I don't really want other people's opinions to bog me down or change my mind in anyway.

So it looks like I'll have the surgery in May. I'm looking forward to reading through all the materials here and getting to know some of you.

Kate

Welcome Kate!

I had that issue too, the one where everyone around had a hard stance against wls. I really only tried hardcore diets once, so they kept telling me that I should keep at it. Thing was, they're all overweight as well. It was mean, but I was forced to ask them how well that was working for them.

Also, if you research the stats, the odds are against us losing long term.

If I have any advise, its that we're all different. Our reactions to the surgery is different, our surgeons plan are different, our weight loss is different. There are some commonalities, but don't be surprised if something in your journey doesn't match up to everyone else :)

Hello!

I'm new to these parts also. Just have my initial consultation yesterday, and am aiming for a May surgery date as well.

I also started off thinking of getting the band, but switched to the sleeve after the information seminar. My doctor group won't even do bands now. I'm comfortable with the decision, and anxious to get things started.

Just wanted to say hi and good luck with your journey!

Heather

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
