Surgery is tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

Hello! i have "lurked" here on and off for months.... tomorrow is the big day. I am freaking just a smidge....I HATE nausea. I do not care as much about being in pain (although I would prefer not to be) but I just hate feeling sick to my stomach and/or throwing up..... ok... so I have my list of things I am taking with me....I have the things I need to adhere to my NUTs guidelines when I get home... all there is to do now is drink my chicken broth and wait.... :D (as an aside, I only had to do a 4 day liquid diet and I have not found it to be very taxing-- I am a "professional dieter" and I have been on WAY harder diets for far longer than this ;) ).

Ok, deep breath, lol!

You sound pretty organised so that's a good start. I hate being sick, that was my fear. But I haven't been sick once in the 9 months since my surgery. Stick to what you're asked to do when you are asked to do it and you won't go far wrong. Pain is pretty manageable too...

First priority post op - sipping Water, morning noon and night. Then getting your Protein in, although that is less important in the first week or so. Your stomach will be numb and swollen so don't force anything down. If you have to take anti-acid meds, take them - acid in your new stomach can mimic hunger. Finally, keep moving. It helps with any gas issues and it also helps with constipation....

What comes next is different from any other diet experience you may have had (like you, I had tried every diet....) - but the results are also unlike anything else I have tried. Hopefully, you've done your last diet, the new normal is fantastic!

I wish you well!!!!

Indigo-- Thanks so much for your words of advice and encouragement. I am hoping right along with you that this is the last diet EVER-- and that all of the changes I make with my "new" stomach will truly be a part of this new life. People often say "don't say DIET-- it is a LIFESTYLE change"-- well the problem for me is the changes I made were always someone else's lifestyle! Not mine! :D So, this time around I am going to find ways to eat that keep me feeling good and that I know my body likes so that I can do this for life.

Your new life will amaze you :-) Attitude is important and I think you have the right attitude to be successful.

My nut said I was a compliant patient - I followed the plan to the letter - that worked for me and helped me change my habits in a way I didn't anticipate. I now have a lifestyle that suits me, one that I can live with and work with.

Good luck tomorrow, keep posting so we know how you are doing.

Good luck to all of you having surgery tomorrow. Tate777 like you I had a fear of getting sick. I am actually allergic to anesthesia so the team did some things to help. Gave me a shot before and after plus some liquid stuff. Don't know what it was or do I care. It worked. No problem coming out of surgery. Only close call was day after surgery when they did leak test. Luckily after drinking barium I turned and it went down. You will be fine. Follow your teams plan. Greatest thing I have done for health and well being.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
