tender and swollen just below right rib.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm new hear. Had my sleeve 3 1/2 weeks ago and already down 23 #'s! My question is this, the ladt couple days I've had sharp pains under my right rib in back. I've had kidny stones a couple times in the past so I figured that's what was happening again snd probably due to lack of Water since surgery. Now my tummy feels very tender and swollen right adjacent to the back area that hurts. How concerned should I be?

Concerned enough to probably call your doctor in the morning. You're right about the kidney stones bit. I've read many stories where kidney stones showed up after surgery due to dehydration. Also some folks have Gallbladder issues.

If I was faced with the same symptoms I would be calling my surgeon's office as soon as they opened next (day). I wouldn't want to wait it out or see how I feel the next day. It's always better to be over cautious than not cautious enough. Best wishes to you.

Thanks ladies. I plan on calling first thing in the morning. After a little research on the web it seems my symptoms more resemble gallbladder, which apparently is common after surgery as well.

What about calling the surgeon on call. This sounds really serious and painful. Did the hospital send you home with an emergency #?

Okay, not any better today when I woke up, so I called the office. My surgeon is 2 1/2 hrs away and he's in surgery this morning. I can't even touch that area of my belly! Very, very tender!! Still having intermittent sharp pain when I walk around, but strangely enough, otherwise fine. No temp. Able to eat and drink. Slept through the night last night. Very odd. Wouldn't gallbladder cause continual pain? Waiting on nurse to call me back. I thought about going to the local er but without fever, they would probably have me in waiting for 6 or so hours. So, I guess I'll just have to wait until they get back with me. If I knew this wasn't related to my surgery I would just go to my local dr. Grrr...ready to feel better!

My gallbladder was not in continual pain. It was intermittent.

I had the same thing happen to me. I woke up out of a dead sleep in horrible pain. I called right away and my surgeon told me it was common. He said that during surgery your diaphragm can get irritated and as the swelling goes down can cause a sharp pain, usually on the right side, into your back and up into your shoulder. He told me to take Tylenol for the pain and not to worry. It was gone 2 days later. I did tell him that if the pain had come on like that but on my left side, I would have called 911 thinking something was seriously wrong.

Hope that helps and that you are experiencing the same thing and not any complications like gallstones or kidney stones.

Okay, I did go to my surgeon today and he was thinking gallbladder too but also had a bit of concern with one of my incision sites right in the same area. Ordered extensive ultrasound pictures checking all areas. Good news, nothing herniated and no gallstones. He did however, say that my gallbladder may have been slow to wake and therefore might be a bit angry along with a hematoma at the area of concern. So.....still not sure but at least reassured that there's no post surgical issues. Thank the Lord. I was afraid I was headed back into the hospital. Thank you all for the concerm and Support. So happy to have found this site!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
