Yeah that's me I'm 35. I'm 5 weeks pregnant today.. I hadn't really realized that I'd be put in that category but atlas I am. I'm what they refer to as Advanced Maternal Age Boo :( almost saddens me to say it. I am 100 lbs healthier that I was when I had my older children but my eggs unfortunately are 35 years old just like me which makes me high risk coupled with me being a bariatric patient it puts me at a higher risk for all sorts of complications. Anybody else on the same boat as me I need a buddy right about now.

I'm 43 yrs old soon to be 44 ...this is my 3rd child ..I'm 16 weeks pregnant...I've already gained 19lbs...I'm getting worried more about weight gain then being an older Mom...I had lost over 60lbs...I was down to164lbs...how is your weight coming?

My obgyn suggested an Amniocentesis?

I'm not sure what to do??

My OB recommended an amino as well, but when I conferred with my maternal-fetal medicine specialist (who would do the amnio), he asked if there were any terms under which I would terminate a pregnancy. Since there weren't in my case, he said for me he didn't feel like an amino was worth it. There is a small risk of miscarriage with amnio, and ultrasounds, particularly when combined with the simple quad screen or Maternity 21 test, can determine risk or Trisomy disorders, etc. Since I'd already had six losses due to other crazy situations on my body, I went that route, and kept my risk of loss as low as possible.

I haven't gained any weight i spoke to my nut and she wants to put me at 2000 calories per day. I thought she was crazy I humored her and asked how many more calories do I need to eat while pregnant and she said 300 more per day so I'm going with 1750 for the day that will keep me at my current weight. Since I'm really at maintenance now. I'm going to be seeing a perinatologist soon so not sure if he is going to recommend a amnio or not. My OB wants me to gain 15 lbs max he's a real stickler when it comes to weight gain.

Congrats on baby :). I know we had surgery right around the same time. I'm 22 weeks preggo today. So- I got pregnant 10 months post-op. Whoops. Other than having severe morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum) which I had never had with my other two midgets- my pregnancy has been status quo. My doc asked me to eat as close to 2000 calories as possible and I'm there most days. I have lost 12lbs thanks to puking most everything I've eaten for 13 weeks, but I've been much better the last month. Ask your doc about the new blood tests rather than an amnio- there are 4-5 on the market that will be able to tell you with 99% accuracy if there are any chromosomal abnormalities (I had to do it after a soft marker was seen at my anatomy scan). The plus to getting it earlier (they can do it as early as 10 weeks) is you find out the sex- if you want of course.

Ok- I'm done rambling now :). Sorry! Congrats on baby again!!!

I just wanted to say congratulations! I'm newer on here, but wanted to comment on the "advanced maternal age." I'm almost 37 and so many of my friends are either pregnant or just had a baby. I wouldn't let that bother you. You are much healthier now after losing weight. Just listen to your docs and your body. Try not to worry too much and enjoy your pregnancy! You will do great! Congrats again!

I am high risk too (twins) but I have had a high risk pregnancy before surgery also twins! But here is how I looked at it I got more appointments and ultrasounds which meant more confirmation regularly that things were going well. Eased my mind.

you are expecting twins again? That's amazing congrats are you at goal yet? I'm 21 weeks and have gained 5 lbs, putting weight back on is super stressful for me. I know it's for a good reason specially when I feel my little guy kicking around in my belly.

I was thinking about you the other day! Glad you're doing well! I had my little guy yesterday just after midnight. He's perfectly healthy and was born at 37w2d. 7lb 2.5oz and 21" long. I gained 10ish lbs after losing 13 (so total of 23lbs gained from my lowest).

I really wouldn't do an amnio if it's not an absolute necessity. My pregnancy was also high risk and was talked into getting the amnio even though I didn't deem it that necessary since I was already at 31 weeks. I was horrified when my Water broke two hours after the amnio. They held off delivering my son for a week until his vitals started deteriorating.

He was in the NICU for five weeks with a multitude of problems. He is a very healthy boy now with no long term effects. However, I think his birth and first few months of life wouldn't have been so traumatic if I would had been more persistent against the amnio being done. I truly think it was the primary cause of my early labor, which led to all the other problems we had to overcome.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
